Abstract

A device for attaching to an electric router, which allows successive cuts to be taken on a workpiece, may comprise a kit of parts having a screw 6 that can be used in conjunction with screws 7 that pass through slots of a fence plate 1, to adjust the position of the fence plate relative to the router. The router may be mounted to the device using location pins 4.

Description

DESCRIPTION
ADJUSTABLE ROUTERCUIDE (ADJUSTAGUIDE) The invention describes & illustrates, a device which when attached to a router, as shown in Fig I, increases the versitility of the router's function, by enabling adjustments to be made to the amount of cutting action, both quickly & accurately without having to adjust the position of' the guide/straight edge.
Currently when planning' the edges of sheets or boards additional cuts can only be made be re-positioning the straight edge/guide the distance of the next cut.
This operation can be laborious & susceptible to re-setting errors.
The proposed invention ie., adjustaguide, requires the straight edge/guide to be positioned only once wherebye any additional cuts can be effected by adjusrnents to the adjustment knob.
The fitting of the proposed device requires no modifications whatsoever requires no modifications whatsoever to the router tool since it picks-up original router features effectively & efficiently.
Fig. 1 shows the assembled components, Fig. 2 shows how the parts come together, firstly item I, fence plate is attached to side arms item 3, using screw knobs item 7.
This assembly is passed over the router baseplate & location pins items 4 are then passed through both items 3 & the hole features which form parts of the route!' baseplate.
When finally aligned as shown in Fig. I. Grubscrews items 8 can then be fitted locking the two assemblies together.
Adjusting knob item 6 is now passed through the key-hole slot in item 5 & then screwed into the threaded clinch nut item 2, which is swaged on to item 1.
Capscrews items 9, are now fitted thus completing the assembly.
All that is now required is to set the fence plate item I as far from the router front edge as the slots in item I will allow, this condition gives the maximum adjustment position for the assembly.
Repeated cuts can be taken by the router firstly by slackening off screw knobs items 7 & turning clockwise adjusting knob item 6 to the required cutting amount.
Screw knobs items 7 are then retightened ready for the next cut.
This operation can be repeated until all of' the designed adjustment is taken-up.

Claims (6)

1. A kit of parts, which attaches to an existing electric powered router, picking-up existing router attachment features.
2. The kit contains all of the parts necessary to achieve conditions in 1. above, together with all additional socket head fasteners & keys, to complete the assembly.
3. Once attached, adjusting screw item 6 (refer to Fig 2. Dig.) requires setting ie. turning anticlockwise until all movement has been taken-up in the slots in item I. Items 7. ie. locking screw knobs are now tightened-up.
4. Once the guide/straight edge has been clamped in place, taking into account the distance from cutter to the front face of item 1, a cut can now be taken.
5. Additional cuts can now be made, if necessary, without repositioning the guide/straight edge simply by unlocking items 7, (locking screw knobs), turning item 6.
(adjusting knob), clockwise by the required amount, then re-locking items 7. as before.
6. Further cuts can be taken without disturbing the guide/straight edge until all of the designed movement in the slots in item I. is taken-up.
