Abstract

245,254. Collyer, J. A. Nov. 19, 1924. S p r a y carburettors. - Fuel from a float chamber g passes through a conduit l<1>, Fig. 1, to a nozzle d, whence it is sprayed into the main air passage a which contains a cone or cylinder c of absorbent material. The nozzle is screwed exteriorly and provided with outlet orifices at its upper end and over it are screwed a washer h<1>, nut h<2>, and a cap h. Fine grooves are formed in the lower face of the cap for the discharge of fuel. The cone c consists of two layers of gauze supported by rings c<1>, the lower of which is held between the washer h<1> and nut h<2>. Air is admitted to the chamber a by a suction-actuated spring-loaded valve e<3>. Arranged around the main air passage are smaller induction tubes f with adjustable air inlets f<2>, the outlets i for mixture opening into the passage a both above and below the throttle valve b. Each tube contains a wick q, communicates at its lower end with the float chamber, and may be provided with a perforated cup-shaped cap j for priming. The float chamber may have a gauze filter g<2> and surplus fuel may collect in tubes o provided with absorbent material. In a modification, Fig. 2, the gauze cylinder c is supported in an annular channel c<2> fed with fuel through a pipe d<2>. In further modifications, two pipes d<2> may be employed and they may extend horizontally from the nozzle d. According to the Provisional Specification, the carburettor may be surrounded by a casing to which warm air is admitted.
