Abstract

A window blind with slats manufactured from plastic, metal or wood. The slat may be covered with a reflecting paint or a heat absorbing paint. Or at least one of the slats may have a photovoltaic material attached to one side thereof, and the blind is attached to a battery, radiator, fan or to transfer heat from one part to the building to another. The blinds may have automatic opening and closing mechanisms and the slats may rotate about a spindle to allow movement.

Description

TEMPERATURE REGULATING WINDOW BLINDS
DESCRIPTION:
The WINDOW BLINDS are constructed to form a complete barrier against heat or cold when closed -the details of the percentage of heat saved or kept out will be tested while this patent application is in progress. The window blinds can be opened according to need and can be made from a variety of materials such as wood, plastic, or a combination of materials such as wood and metal or plastic and metal. The use of heat reflecting paint on one side and heat absorbing paint on the other would increase the effectiveness and adaptability (see Fig. i).
They could also be made from Photo-Voltaic material and attached to a battery, radiator or fan or to transfer heat from a warm part of a building to a cooler part (see Fig 3).
The WINDOW BLINDS can be made with automatic closing and opening mechanisms and could be constructed horizontally, tf preferred. They may swivel round on spindles halfway along the top and base of each slat or from a point near the edge of the top and base of the slats jf this makes fitting easier. It would also be possible to make a model that allows the user to push all the slats to one side for easier window cleaning or for use in French Windows or doors.
The method of construction is as follows: The height, width and depth of the window is measured and a frame constructed to fit inside the window frame. The number of slats to befitted is calculated, allowing for the overlap of the slats (see Fig 2) and the slats are made up accordingly allowing for the spindles to befitted at each ends The slats are then placed in corresponding holes in the frame which is then ljfted into position inside the original window space and secured.

Claims (1)

  1. TEMPERATURE REGULATING WINDOW BLThIDS
ii These blinds can befitted into any home or office at any stage of building and are relatively simple and inexpensive to make 2] The blinds will bring about considerable savings in fuel bills by reducing heat loss through windows in cold weather and minimising the need for air cooling in summer. It is hoped that they will reduce heat loss by 40-70%. (Testing tba) 33 The blinds can be of use during all types of weather to regulate temperature and of make effective use of natural sunlight for most of the year 41 If the blinds are made from a Photo-voltaic material they could be used to make whole office blocks carbon neutral 51 A combination of simple wooden or plastic window blinds with one or two made from Photo-voltaic material would sign jficantly reduce the heating costs for all types of buildings
