Abstract
An intruder alarm system 1 has a sensor 2 located on or adjacent a property such as a boat or home X, able to detect approach of a person "Y". The sensor may be infrared sensitive. A camera 4 takes a digital image of the property or area adjacent a property when a person is detected. The images is transmitted, preferably using mobile telecommunication to a remote receiver 6 such a a mobile telephone of an owner of the property. The image may also be sent via the internet to a remote computer, or sent via satellite.
Description
1 2445587 Title: Alarm System The present invention relates to an alarm
system, especially to monitor the present of an unauthorised person tampering with property remote from its owner.
Many persons own property such as houses boats cars and the like which are left unattended often for periods of time. Owners can return to their property only to find that unauthorised persons have vandalised the property or stolen goods from the property without knowing when this event has taken place, and it is often too late to notify the police and for the police to take effective action.
The invention seeks to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided an alarm system comprising: a) a sensor for mounting on or adjacent a property, said sensor generating an alarm signal upon detection of a person on or adjacent a property, b) a camera to create a digital image of the property or area adjacent a property upon generation of said alarm signal, c) a transmitter to transmit said digital image, and d) a receiver to receive said digital image.
In one embodiment the transmitter transmits the digital image on a mobile phone network.
The receiver may be a mobile telephone or display device linked to a mobile phone network.
In another embodiment the transmitter transmits the digital image on the internet. The receiver may be a computer.
In another embodiment the transmitter transmits the digital image over a satellite network.
The sensor may include an infra-red detector.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a schematic diagram of an alarm system.
Referring to the drawings there is shown an alarm system I for a power boat "X".
Alarm system I has an infra red sensor 2 mounted on the boat "X". Sensor 2 generates an alarm signal upon detection of a person "Y" on boat "X". The alarm signal is fed to a control unit 3.
A camera 4 is connected to control unit 3 to create a digital image of the person "Y" upon generation of the alarm signal by sensor 2.
A transmitter 5 connected to control unit 3 transmits the digital image on a mobile phone network.
The transmitted digital signal is received on a receiver in the form of a mobile phone 6 which can display the digital image of person "Y" to the owner of boat "X". The owner of boat "X" can then take appropriate action such as call the police if he believes the person "Y" should not be on the boat "X". The digital image can be used to identify the unauthorised person "Y". Mobile phone 6 may receive the image as a text, or have additional buttons and/or software built in to view the images.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the system may be used on property other than boats, e.g. on cars or houses. The system may detect persons adjacent a property rather than on a property, e.g. a person walking around a car. The transmitter could transmit the digital image on the internet, and the receiver may be a computer.
The transmitter could transmit the digital image over a satellite network. The receiver may be specifically designed for the system or it may be an off the shelf component. One receiver may be used to receiver signals from more than one sensor, camera or transmitter, e.g. to view images from more than one property or from different areas of a property.
Further modifications will apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (8)
