Abstract

244,557. Sizer, A. W. Oct. 25, 1924. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by pressure and by solvents.- Oils are extracted from seeds &c. by forcing the preferably heated and crushed material through a perforated container, and then immediately extracting the residual oil by volatile solvent. Using the apparatus shown meal of the oilbearing material e.g. palm kernels, linseed, cotton seed, rape seed, sunflower seed, olives, copra, and ground nuts, is fed bv a hopper 1 to a steam heated vessel 2 provided with stirrers which force the cooked product into a hopper 5 leading to a compression chamber 10 in which the meal is foreed m succession through perforated plates 7, 9, &c. by screw sections 6, 8, &c. The expressed oil flows to a receiver 11. The meal passes down a shoot 12 to one of the preferably jacketed and connected extraction chambers 13, 14, &c., supplied with naphtha or carbon disulphide through pipes 2 from a still 21 into which the extract passes through pipes 20.
