Abstract

A drill attachment comprising a twist drill bit 1 with a shank, intended for attachment to any suitable tool, and a grindstone 2 attached to the shank of the twist drill bit 1. The grindstone 2 is bonded to the shank, and supported by a shoulder 3 on the shank. The grindstone 2 may be cylindrical with two planer surfaces with a longitudinal hole between them.

EARTHING DRILL
This invention is a device for use in auto electrical applications.
It is frequently necessary in the auto electrical trade to form an earth connection between the wiring loom and the car body. This is usually achieved by drilling a hole of approx. 3mm into the bodywork and attaching an eyelet which is on the end of the wire, by means of a self tapping screw.
However, any paint, underseal or rust must be removed from around the hole first to ensure a good electrical contact. This is usually achieved by scraping with a sharp object or abrasive paper, usually causing scratches and exposed metal in too wide an area which is unsightly and leads to corrosion. It is also difficult and time consuming.
The earthing drill consists of a drill bit onto which has been bonded a round grindstone, supported by a shoulder on the drill shank. This enables the hole to be drilled and then the grindstone will make contact with a small area of metalwork around the hole, cleaning this area'sto bright metal in one operation.

Claims (4)

1. A device comprising a twist drill bit with a shank which has a distal end intended when in use for cutting and a proximal end intended when in use to engage with any suitable tool for rotating the said twist drill bit and a grindstone which device is intended when in use to drill a hole and also clear material from the surface around the said hole.
2. A device comprising a twist drill bit and a grindstone according to claim 1 in which the said grindstone is cylindrical with two planar surfaces and has a longitudinal hole extending along the axis of the said grindstone between the two planar surfaces of the grindstone.

A device comprising a twist drill bit and a grindstone according to any previous claim in which the said grindstone has been bonded on to the shank of the said twist drill bit.
A device comprising a twist drill bit and a grindstone according to any previous claim in which the said grindstone is supported by a shoulder which has been mounted on to the said twist drill bit.
A device comprising a twist drill bit according to any previous claim on to the shank of which bit has been mounted a grindstone and a shoulder so that the shoulder is nearest to the proximal end of the drill bit and the grindstone is closest to the distal end of the drill bit.
