Abstract

The invention relates to a notebook of sheets 3 and corresponding covering element assembly. The covering element assembly comprises two cover sheets 9, made of a plastics material, of at least the dimensions of the sheets 7 of the notebook. The cover sheets 9 are connected to each other and to the spine of the notebook by at least one common connection element 17 to form an integral notebook and covering element assembly. The connection may be by a plurality of staples 17, by gluing, by stitching threads or by a tube or integral comb binding. A reinforcement strip 19 may be fixed around the central fold line 11 to protect the spine portion 15. The covering sheets may be coloured, rigid and opaque or flexible and translucent.

Description

1 2444631 Notebook of sheets and corresponding covering clement
assembly.
The invention relates to a notebook of sheets and corresponding covering element assembly.
Covering elements for notebooks of sheets, in particular school notebooks, are known, which generally consist of an assembly of two cover sheets connected to each other, generally made of a plastics material, which have to be attached or connected to the first and last sheet, generally the cover sheets, of the notebook. However, such covering elements are separate additional parts of the notebook which add to the production cost of the assembly, and of which the fastening or connection to the notebook may be loose or not very robust.
The aim of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks and offer a notebook of sheets and corresponding covering element assembly comprising a notebook of sheets and a covering element, characterised in that the covering element comprises two cover sheets, made of a semi- rigid or flexible plastics material, of at least the dimensions of the sheets of the notebook of sheets, said cover sheets being connected to each other and to the notebook of sheets by at least one common linking element on the spine of the notebook of sheets to form an integral notebook and covering element assembly.
Said cover sheets of the covering element are preferably connected to each other by a hinge fold.
Said plastics material of the cover sheets of the covering element is preferably translucent to opaque and may be coloured so as to allow the front page of the notebook of sheets to be seen. It is made advantageously of polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride.
Said two cover sheets of the covering element and the spine of the notebook of sheets may be connected to each other along the same common line or connection strip, generally on the spine of the notebook of sheets.
The connection clement may be an independent connection element fixed to the spine of the notebook of sheets, such as a comb or integral binding mounted in the holes of' the cover sheets of the covering element and the spine of the notebook of sheets.
The connection element on the spine may also be formed by stitching by means of staples fixed evenly along the connection line or strip of said cover and notebook, or similarly by gluing using a strip of glue on the spine of the notebook of sheets and engaged on the covering element, or stitching said cover sheets to the spine of the notebook of sheets along said line or connection strip.
Said cover sheets may also receive a longitudinal reinforcement strip fixed or glued to the fold thereof or to the connection element and extending over the length of the fold or connection element so as to protect the fold or connection element from impact or other strains to which it is generally exposed in the region of the spine of the notebook of sheets.
The first cover sheet of the covering element adjacent to the front page of the notebook of sheets may also comprise a label-holder element, for example a window for receiving a label identifying the user or the notebook, similar to a conventional covering element.
At least one of the cover sheets of the covering element may comprise a flap formed preferably by folding with the cover sheet at the side opposite the spine or connection element, which can be placed by the user between the pages of the notebook of sheets, so as to form a page marker.
Said flap may be provided with at least one pocket or corner pocket for holding documents separate from the notebook of sheets.
Naturally, the notebook of sheets comprises a unit of sheets of paper or of a material suitable for printing or writing on, of variable format and pagination, which may vary from a single sheet to a thick book-type document.
Advantageously, the notebook comprises a first sheet or front page of the same dimensions and quality as the other sheets of the notebook.
An example of an embodiment of the invention is now described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: -Fig I is a perspective view of a notebook of sheets and covering element assembly according to the invention, in the partially open position; and -Fig. 2 is a partial view of a variant embodiment.
The notebook and covering element assembly I illustrated in Fig. 1 is in the partially open position so as to show the notebook of sheets proper 3 on the one hand and the covering element 5 on the other.
The notebook 3 differs from a conventional notebook in that it does not comprise a covering sheet protecting the other connected sheets. It comprises simply a unit of sheets 7 forming a document, for example printed or to be printed or written on (school notebook), the first sheet 7a forming the front page of the document being of the same dimensions and quality as the other sheets 7 of the notebook.
The covering element 5 comprises two cover sheets 9 made of a plastics material and of the same format, connected to each other by a central hinge fold line 11 of the covering element, respectively a first covering sheet 9a fixed adjacent to the front page 7a of the notebook and a second cover sheet 9b fixed adjacent to the last sheet 7b of the notebook, and a page marker flap 13 also connected by folding to the far outer side of the second cover sheet 9b.
The covering element 5 and the notebook of sheets 3 are connected integrally to each other along the same line or junction strip (depending on the thickness of the notebook) corresponding in the present case to the central fold line 11 of the covering element 5 and to the line or somewhat narrow strip (depending on the thickness of the notebook) of the spine of the notebook opposite.
This junction is provided by means of a plurality of staples 1 7 fixed traversing in the central fold line 11 of the covering element and in the spine 15 of the notebook, positioned at intervals of equal length one from another. Said junction allows the free articulation of the cover sheets 9 of the covering element and similarly that of the sheets 7 of the notebook, like conventional notebook of' sheets.
It will be seen that this junction or connection may also be produced by gluing (not illustrated), along a strip of glue connecting the sheets 7 of the notebook to the spine portion 1 5 and the covering sheets 9 opposite, or by one or a plurality of stitching threads (not illustrated) connecting the sheets 7 of the notebook and the cover sheets 9 of the covering element over the length of the spine portion 15 of the notebook, or by a tube or integral comb binding 1 8 (Fig. 2) around which each of the cover sheets 9' of the binding element and the sheets 7' are attached by corresponding holes 20 to the spine 15' of the notebook.
The cover sheets 9 of the covering element are made of a flexible, translucent, coloured plastics material and are thick enough to allow them to protect the notebook of sheets 3 effectively. Said cover sheets 9 may also be rigid and opaque. The plastics material may be polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride. The transparency of the cover sheets allows the front page of the notebook to be displayed to identify it and distinguish the front from the back thereof when grasping the notebook and covering element assembly 1.
A reinforcement strip 19 also made of a flexible plastics material may be fixed (preferably glued) around the central fold line 11 of the covering element, to protect thoroughly the spine portion 15, which is the most exposed to impact and the most stressed by movement.
Likewise, a similar reinforcement strip may be fixed to the cover sheets 9' (not illustrated) to cap the connection element 18 of the variant embodiment of Fig. 2.
The first cover sheet 9a comprises an outer pocket 21 housing a user or other identification label 23, and the second cover sheet 9b comprises said hinged flap 13, which allows sheets 7 in the notebook to be marked being inserted between the selected sheets 7.
This flap 13 may comprise one or a plurality of inside pockets (not illustrated) suitable for holding various documents.
The invention thus provides an integrated notebook and covering element assembly of' simple, economic and robust design.
