Abstract

The swivel connector for an airline hose to prevent tangling, coiling and looping is made from a non-ferrous metal and when assembled it uses PTFE sealing washers internally (No. 1 and 2). The main body (No 3) has central barrel-like part (No 4) with washers (No 1 and 2) fitted to stop air or fluid leaking out of the swivel. These parts are then held together using part (No 5) adjusted to allow full rotation and then locked with locking ring (No 6). The whole swivel is then fitted into Airline/Hose as required.

Description

DESCRIPTION
TILE AIRLINE/HOSE SWIVEL Working in the motor trade for over thirty years, we became aware of a problem most workers using an airline, and in particular paint sprayers, will have encountered. On further investigation, we found that many other users of airlines/hoses, e.g. hydraulic engineers, commercial hose pipe users such as car valeters, and even garden hoses suffer the same problem.
Airlines/hoses tangle and kink.
During the spraying of a car in the confines of an spray booth, a tangled airline will cause dust from the oven floor to be stirred up as the sprayer tries to detangle the line; this dust then ends up in the newly painted car. Sometimes, the airline itself will leave marks on the side of a car as it "flips" when trying to straighten it. It can also cause the operator of the airline or hose to trip over the loops caused by tangling, therefore raising a Health & Safety issue.
This led us to design the adaptor to allow us, when pulling the airline/hose, for it to automatically uncoil ItselL Therefore, eliminating the tangled mess normally associated with airlines and other hoses. The basic idea started knowing that we had to produce something that would allow an airline or hose to turn within its length which we thought would stop excessive coiling and tangling. We then produced a prototype which gave very pleasing results. The prototype is a three-piece non-ferrous metal component which when assembled and inserted into an airline/hose at 3-4 metre intervals, depending on the total length of the airline/hose, allows the separate sections of the airline/bose to turn independently of each other, therefore stopping them from tangling up when in use. Supporting diagrams are attached.
This swivel adaptor could also be used with other flexible tube products.

Claims (7)

CLAIMS TILE AIRLLNEIHOSE SWWEL
1. Fluted ends to enable insertion into the airline/hose, thereby securing it in place.
2. It has a swivelling barrel-like centre.
3. The swivel allows full uninterrupted turning of airline/hose.
4. Alleviates the cause of tangling and looping.
5. We have been unable to find any product that can perform this task.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
TUE AIRLINE/HOSE SWIVEL 1. A swivelling device, when securely fitted to airlineihose, allows it turn automatically and easily when pulled by the operator under normal use, therefore eliminating the airline/hose tangle. With regard to Health & Safety issues, this removes the dangers of tripping over the tangled airline/hose and also takes away the frustration of knotted and tangled airline/hose in normal use.
2. A swivelling device according to claim 1, in which the secure fitting is achieved by fluted ends on the device and clamped securely in a airline/hose 3. A swivelling device according to claim 1, which can be manufactured any size relevant to the airline/hose.
4. A swivelling device according to claim 1, can be manufactured from most non-ferrous metals and many plastics to enable no corrosion or chemical attack.
5. A swivelling device according to claim 1, has internal components manufactured from non-ferrous metals or plastics with scaling washers to prevent the escape of air/gas and fluids
6. A swivelling device according to claim 1, has the flexibility of being supplied within an airline/hose assembly from new, or can be inserted after market by the operator.
7. A swivelling device according to the preceding claims, in which the construction method means It is adjustable to compensate for any long-term wear.
