TITLE
Closure for containers
DESCRIPTION
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a closure for containers including but not limited to drink containers where the closure may hold objects such as but not limited to storage media devices such as CD, DVD, Blu-ray or HID DVD. The present invention particularly relates to a closure that separates the enclosed object from the substance contained within the container such that they do not become into contact while the object remains un-removed from the closure and remains sealed in.
Background Art
Closures have been reported for drink containers (US2005205586, US2004217033). These compose of at least two parts. A push fit mechanism is used to releasably secure the two parts together. The parts in some reports (US6299014) are also hingedly attached. Some are reportedly shaped to prevent liquid from within the drink container from entering the enclosure between the two parts where a disk or another object is contained. This is reported to have been achieved by raising the relative level of the aperture in the closure through which a straw penetrates through the closure and into the drink container. This method may work in some circumstances however it can not in all cases be a successful method. Any contact between the object held within the closure and the liquid in the drink container may firstly damage or ruin the object within the enclosure and secondly and more importantly may contaminate the drink inside the container. One other shortcoming of the reported methods is that the object held within the closure may be easily tampered with, with no indication of the tampering.
Summary of the Invention
The above problems are addressed by the present invention, which provides a closure for containers which may hold objects such as but not limited to, storage media such as CD, DVD, HD DVD or Blu-ray. The invention disclosed here proposes a novel method for enclosing an object within a closure for containers. The proposed method avoids any leakage of the substance stored within the container, into the enclosure containing the object, avoiding any contamination of the stored substance or causing the destruction or mining of the object held within the enclosure. In this method the object within the enclosure is always kept separated from the whatever is contained within the container, preventing any damage or contamination of the enclosed object or the stored substance inside the container.
The closure comprising a base part which may be attached to the top or bottom of a container, and a cover part which is fixed to the base using any suitable methods such as adhesives, ultrasonic welding, heat fusion methods or other available processes. The object is sealed in between the cover and base parts.
The closure when used for drink containers may preferably include an aperture, opening or criss-crossed cuttings on the cover part and at a corresponding position on the base part, through which a straw may be passed through, into the drink container.
The closure may preferably contain one or more indicators, used to specify the contents of the container. The indicators may be in form of cuttings, apertures, recesses or protrusions. In the case of indicators being in the form cuttings, apertures or recesses, the indicators may be activated by piercing of the cover part covering over the indicators. In the case of indicators being in the form protrusions, the indicators may activated by deformation of the indicators.
The cover part may be of transparent materials through which the object contained within the closure may be visible, or be of materials which obstruct the passage of light.
The cover part may further more be printed over.
The closure may be mounted on a container and used as a primary closure for the container or used as a secondary closure which may be used as the substitute closure when the primary closure is discarded.
Drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the closure for containers according to the first embodiment of the present invention having a base part and a cover part, with an object which will be sealed in between the two parts.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a closure for drink containers according to a second embodiment of the present invention having a base part and a cover part and an object to be sealed in between the two parts, where the base part and the cover part include criss-crossed cuttings for insertion of a straw.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention where the base part includes indicators in the form of recesses.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention where the base part includes indicators in the form of protrusions.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention where the inner raised walls include criss-crossed cuttings on the top where a straw may be inserted.
Figure 1 shows a closure for containers, comprising a base part 2 and a cover part 4. The base part 2 has means of attachment (not shown here), to top or bottom of a container. An example of an object to be placed within the closure is shown in Figure 1. An example of an object is shown to be a digital media disc 6. The digital media disc 6 is placed in between the base part 2 and the cover part 4 and using a suitable process such as adhesives, ultrasonic welding, heat fusion methods or another suitable process, the cover part 4 is attached to the base part 2, sealing the object 6 in between the two parts. This sealing process isolates the digital media disc 6 from the substances held in the container and also prevents the digital media disc 6 from coming into contact with any substances which may be outside the container. The base part 2 has elevated walls 22 around its circumference, to facilitate the placement and locating of the object on to the base part 2. Once the object 6 is placed and located on the base part 2 the cover part 4 is attached to the base part at the points of contact between the cover part 4 and the raised walls 22 of the base part 2, using a suitable process, sealing in the object 6, within the closure for the container. The cover part 4 includes an extension 42 which facilitates the removal of the cover part 4 and its detachment from the base part 2.
In an alternative embodiment of the invention for the cover part 4, the cover part 4 may not include the extension 42.
In alternative embodiment of the invention for the base part 2, the base part 2 may not include any side walls. It may include other suitable methods for locating of the object on the base part such as raised walls 24 shown in Figure 2 located inside the perimeter of the base part 2.
Figure 2 shows an embodiment of the invention for a closure for drink containers. The base part 2 includes raised walls 22 around its circumference in addition to raised walls 24 inside the perimeter of base part 2, to locate and facilitate the placement and holding of the digital media disc 6. The base part 2 includes a criss-crossed cutting 26 through which a straw may be inserted into the drink container. The cover part 4 also includes criss-crossed cuttings 44, through which a straw may be inserted. After placement of the object on the base part 2, the cover part 4 is attached to the base part 2 at its points of contact with the raised walls 22 and 24 on the base part using a suitable process, sealing the digital media disc 6 within the closure for container. To remove the digital media disc 6 from within the closure for container, the cover part 4 is detached from the base part 2. The digital media disc may then be accessed and removed.
In alternative embodiments of the base part 2 the criss-crossed cuttings may be replaced by an opening, aperture or other forms of cuttings.
In alternative embodiments of the cover part 4 the criss-crossed cuttings may be replaced by an opening, aperture or other forms of cuttings.
In other embodiments of the invention the closure for containers may include indicators which may be used to specif' the contents of the container. These indicators may be in form of cuttings, apertures, recesses or protrusions.
Figure 3 shows an embodiment of the invention which includes indicators 28. The base part 2 includes four indicators 28 in form of recesses. The cover part 4 (not shown) when attached to the base part 2 covers over the indicators 28. By piercing the cover part over one or more of the indicators 28, it is possible to specify the contents of the container.
Figure 4 shows another embodiment of the invention which includes indicators. The base part 2 includes four indicators 27 in the shape of protrusions. By deforming the shape of one or more of the indicators 27, it is possible to specify the contents of the container. The cover part 4 (not shown) may be such that it has cuttings in the same positions as the indicators 27. In an alternative embodiment of the cover part 4 (not shown), the cover part 4's diameter may be such that it would not cover over the indicators 27.
In alternative embodiments of the base part 2, the inner raised walls instead of being in the form of two concentric walls being connected at the top, may be in the form of a single wall connected at the top, where the criss-crossed cuttings, aperture or openings for the straw insertion may be located at a top surface of the raised walls, rather than at base level of the raised walls.
Figure 5 shows an embodiment of the invention where the inner raised walls 25 is in the form of a single wall joined at the top. The criss-crossed cuttings 26 are located on the top surface of the raised walls 25. cc
