Abstract

The inflatable packaging protection device incorporates a valve 1, fold dams 2 and cushion dams 3, which act like mattress buttons and can be folded and inflated to create a protective surrounding for items placed within it. The fold dams facilitate inflation after the protection device has been placed inside a box.

Description

2441829
Inflatable packaging protection
Background
The invention is an inflatable devise that can be inserted into an existing carton/ receptacle to cushion and protect the content here in referred to as the invention'.
Statement of invention
The invention consists of a single inflatable shape which, when placed into a carton/ receptacle, can be inflated with gasses or liquids through any means necessary to cushion, protect, warm or cool the contents placed within it.
The invention is made up of a single shape in which a number of panels have been created. The panels have a number of strategically positioned welds and dams to ensure gas/ liquid flow when the item is inflated. A valve is used through which the invention is inflated thus cushioning its contents.
Advantages
The advantages of the invention are:
It can be used with an existing outer carton/ receptacle and thus the protection can be fabricated as required by the user.
Due to the cushioning provided, the contents of the carton are protected from knocks, drops and from displacement
The use of dams and welds strengthen potential fracture points allowing the invention to be inflated easily even when folded
Shapes moulded within the invention help to grip the content.
The thermal properties of a gas filled cushion allow the contents of any carton incorporation the invention to remain either hot or cold for longer compare red to a carton without the invention
When filled with liquid, gels and other chemical agents the invention can be used to heat or cool its contents depending on the properties of these liquids, gels and chemical agents.

Introduction to drawings
The design is shown in the following drawings:
1. Figure 1 - shows a plan view of the invention unfolded.
2. Figure 2 - shows a folded view of the invention.
3. Figure 3 - shows an artists impression of the invention when filled with air.
Detailed description - referring to Figure 1.
The invention is made up of a shape that is moulded in such a way as to allow gases or liquids to fill it through a valve (1).
The construction of the shape ensures it can be folded to make a cube. This cube can be placed within a carton/ receptacle of any sub-straight/ structure and be inflated with gasses or liquids.
The preferred shape of the invention is shown in figure 1, however any shape that can be folded to create a cube can be utilised.
The use of fold dams (2) ensures gasses and liquids can flow freely when the invention is folded. Figure 1 shows the prefer shape and location of the fold dams; however other shapes and positions can be utilised.
The use of cushion dams (3) ensures a consistent, uniform shape and level of cushioning for the invention. Figure 1 shows the preferred shape and location of the cushion dams; however other shapes and positions can be utilised.
