Registering webs.-In side-registering mechanism for the supply of rolls of printing-machines having a number of such rolls, each roll is provided with gearing for moving it axially adapted to be connected to or disconnected from corresponding actuating gearing on a shaft, common to all the rolls, and operated from a distant point. The movement of each roll 1, Figs. 1 and 3, is effected by lateral adjustment of the bracket 8 carrying the levers 6, 7, to which are pivoted the brake shoes 4 engaging a drum 3 on the shaft of the roll 1. Each bracket 8 is mounted on a shaft 22, Fig. 4, threaded through a boss 20 on the machine frame and provided with a hand-wheel 23 for initial adjustment of the roll, and with a gear 27 for distant control. A gear 28, Fig. 3, is adapted to be moved by a handle 34 into and out of mesh with a gear 35 on a shaft 36 carrying a bevel gear 37, and the gears 37 of all the supply rolls mesh with bevel gears 38 on a common shaft 39 which is adapted to be operated by bevel gearing 41, 42, Fig. 1, and suitable linkage from a hand-wheel 44 situated at the distant point of control. Clutches may be employed instead of disconnectible gears for connecting the shaft 39 to the roll-moving means. The brake lever 7, Fig. 1, is mounted on an eccentric on a pin 10 carrying an arm 11, and the arms of all the rolls are connected by a cable 12 to an actuating wheel 13 located at a suitable distant point.
