Abstract

A dummy socket is a device to hold safely an electrical appliance plug when not in use and does not include any electrical parts. The device consists of blank openings on the front face which receive the pins of the electrical appliance plug. It can be a moulded plastic or rubber device which is mounted by means of an adhesive backing material. It can be produced in various colours or shapes.

Description

The Dummy or Phantom Plug The invention relates to a dummy or phantom
plug which is a special receptacle that temporarily holds an electrical appliance plug whilst it is not in use, stops an electrical appliance plug being left plugged into the wall socket or being dropped to the floor.

When people unplug from the wall socket any electrical appliance, such as a kettle in order to use the socket for another electrical appliance, such as a toaster, often the plug is dropped on the work surface.

The dummy or phantom plug can be used to hold the kettles plug safely whilst the toaster is used. The dummy or phantom plug alleviates problems such as water split on to plugs, plugs falling to the rear of work surfaces resulting in bending or stretching to retrieve plug when needed or accidents/damage to plug or persons.

The dummy or phantom plug allows very easy method for access to the plug for the appliance when the outlet socket is being used for another purpose and whilst being disengaged from the power source remains close to hand.

The dummy or phantom plug is a non electrical blank receptacle for housing any type of plug. The dummy or phantom plug does not require any specialist electrical knowledge to use or install and has no working parts or electrical parts.

The dummy or phantom plug has a self sticking adhesive on the rear plate enabling it to be attached to a variety of items or wall figure 3. The dummy or phantom plug measures approximately 6cm height by 6cm width by 3.5cm depth.

There are three small blank openings in the front face of the dummy or phantom plug for insertion of the prongs of a plug figure 1. The openings the plug maybe adapted to suit all types of plug such as EU two pins.

The dummy or phantom plug can be made from either moulded plastic material or rubber and can be produced in various colours to co ordinate with decor figure 2.There is also a potential to vary shape according to type of moulding used. The dummy or phantom plug can also be manufactured in multiples of one allowing a bank of dummy or phantom plugs to be used figure 4.

Many homes and businesses have various appliances, TVs, toasters microwaves, computers etc, in some instances there are only a limited number of sockets to accommodate the item in use, particularly true when the item is intermittently used, and the dummy or phantom plug mitigates this problem by safely holding the plugs when not in use.

The dummy or phantom plug does not necessarily need to be next to a wall socket and can be mounted on the appliance itself for ease of use.

Claims (1)

  1.
Claims 1. A dummy or phantom plug is a device for safe storage of
electrical appliance plugs whilst not in use or plugged into an electrical wall socket and consists of a blank pin receptor which has no internal electrical wiring or parts.

2. A dummy or phantom plug according to claim 1 can be made from a moulded plastic or rubber material and can be produced in various colours or shapes as determined by the manufacturing process and is attached to the relevant site required by means of an adhesive backing.
