Abstract

A mud and spray guard specifically designed for use on a bicycle, mountain bike or motorbike suspension fork is affixed to the suspension fork lower crown and fork brace and prevents spray, mud and other debris from passing through this gap and projecting into the riders face, impairing vision. The guard can be fitted manually without the need for specialist tools. The material used is flexible enough to allow for un-impeded movement of the suspension fork.

Description

NeoGuard

Description:

The NeoGuard is a mud and spray guard intended for use on bicycles, mountain bikes and motorbikes fitted with suspension forks. The NeoGuard is for use on the front wheel only.

Mud and spray collected by the front wheel is thrown into the riders face as the wheel rotates, thus impairing vision. Much of this mud and spray is projected from the wheel, through the gap between the wheel and the underside of the headtube.

Typically, most modern mountain bike suspension forks have a crown and fork brace.

The NeoGuard bridges the gap between the crown and brace preventing spray and mud from passing, whilst at the same time allowing for the suspension movement.

No other bicycle, mountain bike or motorbike mud / spray guard prevents mud or spray from passing through the gap between the fork brace and crown. Most mudguards consist of a solid plastic guard fitting to the underside of the crown, which prevents a limited amount of spray from projecting towards the riders face.

The NeoGuard is to be made of a material that is elastic and / or flexible to allow for suspension movement. Initial designs will be made from Neoprene although we reserve the right to use other.

The NeoGuard is to be securely fixed to the crown and bridge arch by means of Velcro straps or other appropriate fixed means.

There are various types of suspension forks, with various amounts of suspension travel and crown/brace designs. Various modifications of the basic NeoGuard concept will be made to suit these needs.

Another facet of the NeoGuard is that is can be secured and removed without the need for specialist tools. Because of its inherent flexible and lightweight construction, it can be rolled up and easily stowed or packed away when not in use.

No other current mud or spray guard design, bridges the gap between the fork brace and lower crown.

* Flexible construction allows for unimpeded movement of suspension forks, whilst still preventing spray and mud from passing.

* Can be affixed to a variety of suspension fork designs.

* Can be fitted manually, without the need for specialist tools.

* Velcro fastening -or other appropriate fixing method.

* Material should be lightweight, flexible, and easily washable. Although Neoprene is the most appropriate material, we reserve the right to use suitable alternatives.
