A hand held tool for baked potato preparation that performs cutting and opening includes a handle 3, tool body 2, cutting edge profile 1 and tapered opening forming tool 4.

<p>Patent Specification for Title</p>
<p>Food Preparation Tool</p>
<p>Background</p>
<p>This invention relates to a food preparation tool for cutting and opening a baked potato (jacket potato).</p>
<p>When opening a baked potato the person performing the task has to cut the potato with a knife in either one direction or in a cross into the potato. In this procedure fingers are potentially subjected to the heat from the potato and injury from the knife blade. The cross method of cutting in general is often followed by pushing the potato in each of the four segments in order to open it allowing butter or filling to placed into it, this procedure also potentially subjects the person performing the task to heat from the potato.</p>
<p>Statement of Invention</p>
<p>To avoid close contact with a baked potato upon cutting and opening the present invention proposes a hand held baked potato cutting and opening tool.</p>
<p>The tool is to be pushed into the potato first cutting and on further penetration opening the potato sufficiently for adding fillings.</p>
<p>Advantages The use of a baked potato cutting and opening tool avoids close contact to the hot potato upon cutting and opening.</p>
<p>The use of a baked potato cutting and opening tool avoids close contact to a blade' or sharp edge upon cutting the potato.</p>
<p>The baked potato cutting and opening tool potentially provides a fast effective method thus a time saving in food preparation.</p>
<p>Introduction to Drawings</p>
<p>Sheet 1 of 5 details a conventional method for preparation of baked potatoes.</p>
<p>Figure 1 shows a the potato being cut across its length Figure 2 shows the potato being cut across its width Figure 3 shows the potato being pushed open Figure 4 shows the prepared potato Sheet 2 of 5 details a potato being prepared according to the invention Figure 5 shows the preparation tool above the potato ready to be pushed to perform cutting Figure 6 shows the preparation tool pushed into the potato to perform further cutting and opening.</p>
<p>Figure 7 shows the prepared potato Sheet 3 of 5 details various tool cutting profile versions side elevation, end elevation and underside elevation views.</p>

<p>Description and Drawings</p>
<p>The baked potato cutting and opening tool takes the form of a hand held tool, the tool body separates the handle from the cutting / opening forming tool parts. Figure 13 shows the form of tool handle 3, tool body 2, cutting edges or blades 1 and the opening forming parts of the tool 4.</p>
<p>The cutting part of the tool takes the form of a four way cutting blade' or sharp edge enough to pierce the skin of a baked potato. The specific profile of the cutting edge is either straight or curved from the tool body to tool tip. Figures 8 to 12 show the profiles of cutting edge and opening forming tool from a side elevation, end elevation and underside elevation views.</p>
<p>The shape of the tool provides an opening effect as it is pushed into the potato as shown in figure 6. Each part of the opening forming part of the tool tapers from the tool body to tool tip as shown in figure 13, the tool shape offers it to be used on any size potato.</p>
<p>The drawings in figures 14 and 15 show alternative versions of cutting edge or blade. The preparation tool has a removable cutter 1 attached to a removable handle 2 by means of a screw thread or snap to fix attachment 4. The preparation tool has a tool body 6 and an opening forming tool 5. Figure 15 has the addition of spring 7 that allows the cutting edge to retract once pressure is released from the handle 2. k</p>

  1. <p>Claims 1. A hand held tool for food preparation that performs cutting
    and opening.</p>
    <p>2. A hand held tool for food preparation according to claim 1, by which cutting is performed by a four way sharp edged tool.</p>
    <p>3. A hand held tool for food preparation according to claim 1, by which opening is performed by a four way tapered form tool.</p>
