Abstract

A domestic gas mains regulating assembly 10 comprises a valve assembly 12 arranged to regulate the flow of gas through the mains, and a card reader assembly 14 arranged to receive and read a pre-payment card 16 which contains data pertaining to the amount of gas permitted. The domestic gas mains regulating assembly 10 also comprises a wireless signal communication means 18 arranged between the card reader assembly 14 and the valve assembly 12.

<p>VALVE ASSEMBLY</p>
<p>The invention relates to a fluid regulating assembly, in particular, but not exclusively a domestic gas mains regulating assembly.</p>
<p>A domestic gas mains regulating assembly comprising a valve assembly arranged to regulate the flow of a gas through the mains, and a card reader assembly arranged to receive and read a pre-payment card which contains data pertaining to the amount of gas permitted is known.</p>
<p>An aim of the invention is to provide a domestic gas mains regulating assembly with improved usability.</p>
<p>According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a domestic gas mains 1 5 regulating assembly comprising a valve assembly arranged to regulate the flow of a gas through the mains, and a card reader assembly arranged to receive and read a pre-payrnent card which contains data pertaining to the amount of gas permitted, characterised in that the domestic gas mains regulating assembly also comprises a wireless signal communication means arranged between the card reader assembly and the valve assembly.</p>
<p>By using a domestic gas mains regulating assembly in accordance with the invention, a domestic gas customer can control their gas supply from a more convenient location than at the valve assembly, which is often inconveniently located. Also, the domestic gas mains regulating assembly in accordance with the invention allows portability of the control.</p>
<p>According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a fluid regulating assembly comprising a valve assembly arranged to regulate the flow of a fluid, and a pre-pay part reader assembly arranged to receive and read a pre-pay part such as a card, characterised in that the fluid regulating assembly also comprises a wireless signal communication means arranged between the card reader assembly and the valve assembly.</p>
<p>A domestic gas mains regulating assembly in accordance with the invention will now he described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawing in which, Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a domestic gas mains regulating assembly.</p>
<p>Referring to Figure 1, a domestic gas mains regulating assembly 10 comprises a valve assembly 12 arranged to regulate the flow of a gas, and a pre-pay part reader assembly 14 arranged to receive and read a prc-pay part such as a card 16.</p>
<p>The domestic gas mains regulating assembly also comprises a wireless signal communication means 18 arranged between the card reader assembly 14 and the valve assembly 12. The wireless signal communication means 18 can comprise a conventional transni itter and receiver pair.</p>
<p>Typically, the pre-pay part reader assembly 14 is arranged to be used exclusively with a single valve assembly 12, within a particular household, in this sense, the pre-pay part reader assembly 14 and the single valve assembly 12 are matching.</p>
<p>In accordance with the invention, the card reader assembly 14 can be placed anywhere within a working signal range of the valve assembly 12.</p>
<p>The working signal range may be capped so as to act as an obstacle to using a card reader assembly to regulate gas from a non matching valve assembly 12. The working signal range may be between I m and 1 00 rn, preferably between 5 rn and 25 m.</p>
<p>In use, the pre-pay card 16 is inserted into the slot in the card reader assembly 14, thereby signalling the card reader assembly the amount of gas permitted (or monetary equivalent).</p>
<p>The domestic gas mains regulating assembly i ü in accordance with the invention is useful for elderly people who might otherwise find it difficult to access a valve assembly.</p>

  1. <p>Claims 1. A domestic gas mains regulating assembly comprising a valve
    assembly arranged to regulate the flow of a gas through the mains, and a card reader assembly arranged to receive and read a pre-paent card which contains data pertaining to the amount of gas perniitted, characterised in that the domestic gas mains regulating assembly also comprises a wireless signal communication means arranged between the card reader assembly and the valve assembly.</p>
