Abstract

A window handle 1 includes a recess 10 defined in an outside thereof and a lock is received in the recess. The lock includes a sleeve 2 with a lock piece 3 received in a passage in the sleeve. The sleeve has a plurality of catch members 20 to hook with the lock piece (at 32) and the lock piece includes two slots 31,33 in which two tongues 4,6 are retractably received. The recess includes a shoulder 102 defined in an inner periphery thereof so that when the lock is inserted in the recess, the tongue 6 is engaged with an underside of the shoulder so prevent the lock from being pulled out from the recess. The lock piece has an access hole 34 for a tool 7 inserted therein to engage portion 61 to push the tongue clear of the shoulder to allow lock insertion and removal. Tongue 4 engages slot 21 in the sleeve to prevent relative movement of the lock piece.

Description

COMBINATION OF LOCK AND HANDLE 2435671

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a window or slide door handle and a lock includes a retractable tongue which allows the assembler to quickly install the lock to the handle.

BACKGROUND OF THE iNVENTION

As shown in Fig. 1, a conventional handle 7 of windows or slide doors generally includes a lock assembly 8 received therein and the lock assembly 8 includes a key hole 80 in which a key (not shown) is inserted to lock the handle from being rotated for security purpose. The lock assembly 8 includes a first slot 801 for a first tongue 90 received therein and a second slot 802 for a second tongue 91 retractably received therein. The lock assembly 8 is received in a recess 70 in the handle 7 and a shoulder 702 is defined in an inner periphery of the recess 70. The second tongue 91 moves along the guide groove 701 defined in an inner periphery of the recess 70 and is pushed by the spring 95 to make one end of the second tongue 91 be stopped by the shoulder 702 such that the lock assembly 8 does not drop from the recess 70. When the lock assembly 8 is to be removed from the recess 70, a tool 99 is inserted between the second tongue 91 and a vertical wall of the shoulder 702 to move the second tongue 91 right to remove the lock assembly from the recess 70.

It is noted that the overlapped area of the shoulder 702 and the second tongue 91 is so small that the second tongue 91 might disengage from the shoulder 702 when rotating the lock assembly 8.

The present invention intends to provide a lock which includes a retractable tongue extending radially from the lock to engage with a shoulder in the recess in the handle so that the assemblers simply push the lock into the recess of the handle to set the lock assembly in position.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a combination of lock and handle, wherein the lock is received in a recess in the handle and the lock includes a sleeve and a lock piece which is securely received in a passage in the sleeve. The sleeve has a first slot defined in a wall thereof and a plurality of catch members which are hooked to the lock piece. The lock piece includes a second slot and a third slot defined in an outer periphery thereof. A first tongue and a second tongue are respectively inserted into the second and third slots. Each of the first and second tongues is biased by a respective one of two springs to push two respective distal ends of the first tongue and the second tongue out from the second and third slots. The first tongue is engaged with the first slot to combine the sleeve and the lock piece. The second tongue moves over the guide ramp and is engaged with an underside of the shoulder.

The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Fig. 1 shows a conventional lock assembly in a handle and a tool is used to shift a tongue; Fig. 2 is an exploded view to show the lock and the handle of the present invention; Fig. 3 shows the tongue is to be moved to the guide ramp in the handle; Fig. 4 shows the tongue is moved over the guide ramp in the handle; Fig. 5 shows that the tongue is engaged with an underside of the shoulder; Fig. 6 shows a top cross sectional view of the position of the tongue in Fig. 3; Fig. 7 shows a top cross sectional view of the position of the tongue in Fig. 4, and Fig. 8 shows a top cross sectional view of the position of the tongue in Fig. 5.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to Figs. 2 to 7, the window handle 1 of the present invention comprises a recess 10 defined in an outside thereof and a shoulder 102 is defined in an inner periphery of the recess 10. A driving stud is connected to the other side of the handle 1.

The lock of the present invention includes a sleeve 2 and a lock piece 3 with a key hole 30 is received in a passage 22 in the sleeve 2. The sleeve 2 has a first slot 21 defined in a wall thereof and a plurality of catch members 20 are formed axially at the lower end of the sleeve 2. Each catch member 20 includes a hook end 201 so as to be hooked with a groove 32 defined in the outer periphery of the lock piece 3. The lock piece 3 further includes a second slot 31 and a third slot 33 defined in an outer periphery thereof. A first tongue 4 and a second tongue 6 are respectively inserted into the second and third slots 31, 33. The first tongue 4 includes a through hole 41 defined therein to save material and reduce weight thereof. The first tongue 4 includes a first protrusion 40 extending from a side thereof and a spring 5 has one end in contact with the first protrusion 40 and the other end of the spring 5 is received in the second slot 31. The second tongue 6 includes a second protrusion 40 extending from a side thereof and one of a spring 50 has one end in contact with the second protrusion 60 and the other end of the spring 50 is received in the third slot 33. The two springs 5, 50 push two respective distal ends of the first tongue 4 and the second tongue 6 out from the second and third slots 31, 33. The first tongue 4 is engaged with the first slot 21 to combine the sleeve 2 and the lock piece 3. The second tongue 6 includes a driving portion 61 which is a hole defined therethrough and an access hole 34 is defined in an underside of the lock piece 3, the driving portion 61 of the second tongue 6 communicates with the access hole 34, so that the user may use a tool 7 to insert into the access hole 34 and to move the second tongue 6 when install the lock in the recess 10 of the handle 1.

In other words, when installing the lock into the recess 10, the second tongue 6 can be moved away from the shoulder 102 before the lock passing the shoulder 102 and then the second tongue 6 is released again to be engaged with an underside of the shoulder 102 to prevent the lock from removing from the recess 10.

By the second tongue 6, the lock can be easily and quickly installed in the recess 10 of the handle 1 without too much skill and time. Furthermore, this particular arrangement allows the depth of the shoulder 102 to be deep enough to ensure the second tongue 6 will not disengage from the shoulder 102 when rotating the lock piece 3.

While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
