Abstract

A set of lids for cooking vessels where each lid has a handle adapted to stably support a lid stacked on top of it, where each lid has a handle receiving means underneath the lid to accommodate the handle from the lid stacked below it. Preferably the handle has at least three supporting portions to support another lid, which may be star, Y or H shaped. Preferably the lids are substantially identical thereby allowing the lids to be stacked in any order. The lids are preferably for use with a set of stackable cooking vessels that have rims that are substantially equal and a variation of depths.

Description

A stackable lid fr a cookware vessel This invention relates to cookware
vessels such as pots and saucepans, particularly to stackable sets of the same, and specifically to stackable lids therefore, adapted for convenient, compact and stable storage.

It is applicable to the fields of cookware, cooking, catering and storage.

In the past various pots and saucepans have been known which stack in order to save storage space. However the lids must be stored separately, and generally cannot be stowed conveniently. A known method of storing lids and pots is to place them upside-down inside one-another, a typically unstable arrangement that still takes up considerable storage space.

One solution to this problem is to provide lids of varying diameter, which can be placed around one-another, the largest topmost, on top of a set of stacked pots. In this case the pots are adapted to have their rims level to one another when stacked inside one-another, so that the lids each rest upon a respective pot. This has the disadvantage of greatly increased production costs associated with multiple lid and pot sizes.

It is an object of the present invention to provide lids for pots requiring less storage space, increasing the convenience of a method of storage, or solving the above problem with reduced manufacturing costs.

According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a cookware vessel lid specifically for a set of lids, where each lid of the set has a handle specifically adapted to stably support handle receiving means of any other lid of the set, and also has handle receiving means specifically adapted to be stably supported by a handle of any other lid of the set.

According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a cookware vessel for the cookware vessel lid of the first aspect.

According to a third aspect of the invention there is provided a set of cookware vessels and respective lids comprising the cookware vessel lid of the first aspect. t

According to a fourth aspect of the invention there is provided a method of manufacturing the cookware vessel lid of the first aspect.

According to a fifth aspect of the invention there is provided a cookware vessel specifically for a set of cookware vessels, where each vessel of the set has a rim for stably supporting a lid, and where the rims of the cookware vessels are substantially equal.

For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a diagram showing a side view of a pot and lid according to an embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a diagram showing a side view of another pot and lid suitable for use with that of figure 1; Figure 3 is a diagram showing the lid of figure 1 from above; Figure 4 is a diagram showing the lid of figure 1 from the side; Figure 5 is a diagram showing the lid of figure 1 from the front; Figure 6 is a diagram showing a diagonal view of stacked pots and lids according to one embodiment of the invention; and Figure 7 is a diagram showing a horizontal diagonal view of the same.

In the following description, various aspects of the present invention will be described. For purposes of explanation, specific configurations and details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. However, it will also be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without the specific details.

Furthermore, well known features may be omitted or simplified in order not to obscure the present invention.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention there is provided a cookware vessel lid specifically for a set of lids, where each lid of the set has a handle specifically adapted to stably support handle receiving means of any other lid of the set, and also has handle receivin9 means specifically adapted to be stably supported by a handle of any other lid of the set.

According to an alternate embodiment of the invention there is provided a cookware vessel lid, for a set of cookware vessels comprising at least two cookware vessels and at least one other lid, the cookware vessel lid having a handle and handle receiving means, the handle of the cookware vessel lid being adapted to mate with handle receiving means of at least one of the at least one other lid, the handle receiving means of the cookware vessel lid being adapted to mate with a handle of at least one of the at least one other lid, such that the cookware vessel lid and at least one of the at least one other lid may be stably stacked.

According to a tri-lobal embodiment of the invention the handle comprises at least three supporting portions for supporting another lid thereon.

According to a further embodiment of the invention the at least three supporting portions are for abutting respective parts of an edge of another lid supported thereon.

According to another embodiment of the invention the handle is provided in a star shape.

According to a specific embodiment of the invention the handle is provided in a Y' shape.

According to a vessel oriented embodiment there may be provided a cookware vessel specifically for a set of cookware vessels, where each vessel of the set has a rim for stably supporting a lid, and where the rims of the cookware vessels are substantially equal.

Description of the Preferred Embodiments.

Embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the drawings in which: Figures 1 shows a pot and lid for use in a set of the same, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figure 2 shows a matching pot and lid for use with those of figure 1. A pot I carries a lid 2, the lid having a lid handle 3. A pot handle 4 may be fixed or removable. Optionally the pot has lip means 5 for controlling a relative nesting position of the pot within a larger pot.

The lip means 5 may be in the form of a lip or rim, one or more protrusions from the pot, or a substitute structure or form.

Figures 3, 4 and 5 show the lid 2 with a handle 3 and rim 6 according to an embodiment of the invention. The lid handle is in the form of a star, preferably with three prongs, most preferably with an off-centre hub such as to provide a linear handle grip position. A preferred handle shape is a Y' shape.

It is attached to the lid 2 by struts or like-means such that the extremities of the star are higher than the rim 6 of the lid in use. The extremities of the lid handle are adapted to cooperate with a similar lid so as to support that similar lid. The lid is provided such that a stack of such lids may be stable; each lid's rim encompassing the lid handle of the lid immediately below.

Figure 6 shows a set of pots stacked within one another, the members of such a set preferably having respective volume sequentially decreasing towards the uppermost. The arrangement shown is a stowed configuration where the pots' lids are stacked on a tower of nestled pots.

Figure 7 shows the same arrangement of pots and lids from the side, illustrating the relative positioning of the respective upper edges of the pots.

Although the bases of the pots may have differing diameters, it is preferred that the upper edge diameters are substantially equal.

The pots are provided stackable, and have identical or equivalent upper edges, each adapted to accept a lid. The lids are preferably identical or equivalent adapted to rest stably on any of the pots. Furthermore the lids are preferably able to be stacked stably in any order. The stable stacking of the lids upon each other is achieved by provision of a handle adapted to mate with the rim of the lid above. Preferably this is by the provision of at least three peripheral handle portions adapted to support the lid above, and to either individually or jointly prevent the upper lid's movement in at least one horizontal dimension, preferably both.

According to one embodiment each of three peripheral handle portions sits within the rim of the lid above, and jointly prevent lateral movement thereof.

S

One valuable result from such configurations can be that any lid fits upon any pot, thus obviating the need to stack the pots or the lids in any particular order.

Optionally each pot may be provided with lip means for controlling the stacking of the pots. This may be by means of protrusions which may be spot welded to the pot, and which may be buttons'. The pot is preferably of steel, such as stainless steel, but may be of aluminium or a substitute therefore.

There may be a polishing, brushing or enamelling step or substitute therefore in the manufacture thereof. The lid may be similarly manufactured but may alternatively be of glass or a substitute therefore.

The terms pot' and pots' are intended to include saucepans and pans, as applied to cookware, As such the terms pot', saucepan' and pan' may be used interchangeably, and their plurals likewise.

The term depth' as relating to a cookware vessel is intended to mean the difference in height between an internal cooking surface and a rim of the vessel in use.

The terms star shaped' or Y shaped' relate to shape as seen from above. The lid's handle may be convex, may match a convex upper surface of a lid, and may be adapted to rest against an inner surface of a lid identical. In addition to star and V-shapes; X-shapes, T-shapes, H shapes and variations thereof are contemplated. Additionally the handle may be composed of multiple elements, such as three bars, which may be substantially parallel; the central one being longest.

There may be provided a stackable pot or saucepan, where each of the lids may be stably stacked above the pots by means of handles mating with the rims of the lid above. The lids are identical, and the pots have identical tops to obviate preferential stacking of the lids. Preferably the handle is in a Y' shape making three connections with the rim of the lid above.

Further embodiments of the invention are set out in the claims.

The apparatus and methods disclosed and claimed herein can be made and executed without undue experimentation in light of the present disclosure. While the apparatus and methods of this invention have been described in terms of preferred embodiments, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that variations may be applied to the apparatus, methods and in the steps or in the sequence of steps of the method described herein without departing from the concept, spirit and scope of the invention. All substitutes and modifications apparent to those skilled in the art are deemed to be within the spirit, scope and concept of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
