Abstract

A method and apparatus for measuring the flow rate of a fluid within tubing disposed within a downhole wellbore. The apparatus includes an inverse Venturi meter 60 inserted within tubing 15 with an enlarged inner diameter portion 61. The pressure differential is measured between the enlarged inner diameter portion 61 and another portion of the inverse Venturi meter 60 (see 70, 75 in Fig. 3). Flow rate is determined from the pressure differential and the density of the fluid.
