Abstract

The Shower Panel, includes 9mm polystyrene foam substrate (1),Polyurethane Reactive Adhesive (PUR) (2) and High Pressure Laminate (HPL) 3. The panel is light weight as well as waterproof.

Description

Showt anel 2428993 This invention relates to a wall panel for applying to
walls of either a shower cubicle or wet room installations.
When installing a shower, Tiles or heavy wall panels made from MDF or Plywood bonded to laminate is used. This application can lead to a number of difficulties such as expensive installation costs, difficult for the D I Y installer and personal injury from lifting the heavy panels. To overcome these problems the present invention proposes a shower panel, which consists of a 9mm polystyrene foam core, bonded to a sheet of 1.2mm High-pressure decorative laminate using PUR (Polyurethane reactive).
This provides a totally waterproof shower panel Because The Polystyrene Foam based substrate is a closed cell substrate unlike MDF or Plywood that are not closed cell.
The polystyrene Foam is very lightweight, easy to cut and can be manoeuvred around difficult wall surfaces with ease making it an obvious choice for most DIY installers. This Shower panel will reduce installation costs and reduce installation time.
Fig I shows the build up of the shower panel.
Although fixing the Shower panel to the shower wall with the use of plastic moulded extrusions is commonly used to fit wall panels the concept in which these panels will be attached to the wall differs from other ones used.
It is the intention to fit an inner extrusion to the wall then fit the shower panel and then fit an outer extrusion leaving a secure neat and tidy joint.
(See Fitting Diagrams 1-10) Claim

Claims (1)

  1. i. A Shower Panel comprising of a 9mm polystyrene foam core bonded to 1.
2mm High Pressure laminate (HPL) by polyurethane Reactive (PUR) ii. A Shower Panel according to claim I which provides a waterproof wall panel for shower cubicles or wet rooms (closed cell substrate) iii. A Shower Panel according to claim I that will be lightweight and make installation more manageable.
iv. A Shower Panel according to claim 1 that will be strong and durable from the use of 1.2 mm HPL.
