Strainer separators.-Seeds, grains, sugar'crystals and the like mixed with liquid are fed continuously to a centrifugal machine where the liquid is thrown off; washing water is supplied and then ejected, and the particles discharged in a comparatively dry state. The shaft 2 passes through the hubs 11, 12 which carry the basket 16; the shaft is rotated by the pulley 5 and the basket by the pulley 22. The end of the shaft remote from the pulley is bored to connect the water supply pipe 9 to the transverse nozzle 7. The basket has a screen 17 of perforated metal or of metal gauze. Bosses 30 secured to the shaft 2 have radial arms carrying bearing brackets 33 for the rods 32. The brackets have extending arms carrying a bar 35 upon which the conveyer flights 36 are mounted. These flights are set a small distance from the screen and at an inclination to give a spiral movement to the material. The rods 32 carry resilient arms 38 to which are secured scrapers 41 clamped between plates 39, 40. The scraper 41 is slotted to facilitate removal. Each rod 32 carries a forked member 48 with an adjusting screw 50 which bears against the lug 49 to vary the pressure of the scrapers on the screen. The basket is rotated at a greater speed than the shaft 2 and the wet material is supplied through the pipe 21. The liquid passes through the screen and the shoot 23 while the material is passed by the flights and scrapers spirally along the basket. Washing water is supplied through the pipe 9 and nozzle 7 and is discharged through the screen and shoot 24 while the clean material passes to the annual space 28 and discharge shoot 29.
