Abstract
A device for securing a sock to the foot of the wearer comprises an open ended tubular garment 2 made of elastic that is worn over an infant's sock. The garment prevents the sock from being pulled off the foot. Preferably the tubular garment has a hole3 in the body of the garment to accommodate the wearer's heel. The tubular garment may have rubberised treads 5 on the underside to prevent a crawling or walking infant from slipping. Alternatively the tubular garment may be made out of a flat piece of material that is wrapped around the foot and fastened with Velcro (RTM) (7, Fig 4) to create the tubular shape (Fig 4).
Description
Description of Invention
Title: Garment securing infant socks
Background:
Infant socks often come off the foot for the following reasons: a) A baby's foot is short and stout, thus making it difficult for the sock to stay in place. (It should be noted that this is not a problem once the foot grows longer) b) Due to a baby's natural developmental stages, they tend to flap, kick and vigorously move their legs and feet, causing their socks to come off.
c) Babies develop a fascination with their feet and amuse themselves by pulling off their socks.
Problems associated with infant socks coming off feet: i) Socks are needed to provide warmth and maintain body temperature as a large amount of heat can escape from an baby's uncovered foot.
ii) Socks are viewed as a fashionable accessory and complete an outfit. A baby without her socks looks incomplete.
iii) Pulling off socks often results in them getting lost or misplaced, which can become a costly business.
Statement of Invention:
An over garment made out of highly elasticised material is slipped over the sock and locks' it into place.
The over garment is a tube of elasticised material with an opening for the foot and ankle and a hole around the heel.
Alvantages: If the sock is pulled from the toes, it gets caught by the opening of the over garment around the heel.
Only an adult or person with manual dexterity can dislodge the sock and over garment by pulling it down from the ankle, around the heel and then over the toes.
The over garment could become a fashionable accessory and become part of everyday sock wear.
The over garment will keep the sock firmly in place without compromising the baby's blood circulation.
The over garment would keep the sock firmly in place and prevent heat loss from the baby's foot.
The over garment would preferably have rubberised treads underneath to prevent slipping when the baby crawls or walks.
Introduction to drawings:
Figure 1 Figure 1 shows how the over garment is placed over the traditional sock Figure 2 Figure 2 shows a side view of the over garment with hole Figure 3 Figure 3 shows flat view of the over garment with hole Figure 4 Figure 4 shows an alternative design of the over garment with a VelcroAor other fastening device Figure 5 Figure 5 shows the over garment laid flat with Velcrfastening device
Detailed Description of Drawings:
The elasticised material is knitted in a tubular cylindrical shape 2 with an oval shaped hole 3 cut out of 2.
The tubular cylindrical shape 2 is placed on top of the sock 6 with opening I going around the ankle and opening 4 going around the foot circumference.
The hole 3 goes around the ankle 7.
If the sock 6 is pulled from the toes 8 the sock 6 gets locked in at the hole 3 thus preventing it from slipping off.
It would be advantageous for the garment 2 to have non slip rubberised treads 5 to prevent the crawling I walking infant from slipping.
An alternate method would be to make ver garment out of a flat piece of material as in figure 5. It could be fastened with Velcrmdle 8 and female 7 fasteners around the top side of the infants foot as in figure 4.
Claims (5)
- Claims 1) A garment worn over the infant sock which locks the sock intoplace to prevent it from being pulled off the foot.
- 2) The invention according to claim I is a tubular garment made of elasticised material.
- 3) The tubular garment according to claim 2 has an opening around the circumference of the foot for the toes and a hole cut out large enough to fit around the heel.
- 4) The garment according to claim I may have rubberised treads on the underside.
- 5) The garment according to claim 1 may be made out of a flat piece ofatrial that is then wrapped around the foot according to claim 2 and fastened with velcro,to reate the tubu- lar shape according to claim 1.
