Abstract

242,735. Trent Engineering Co., Ltd., and Lacey, W. Sept. 8, 1924. Circular machines.-In machines provided with a striping or patterning attachment, automatic means are provided for bringing the striping attachment into action and also for cutting out the splicing thread without stopping the machine on the completion of a heel or toe and the resumption of continuous work. The clutch controlling the striping attachment is controlled by a shaft C on which is mounted an arm B engaged by a pattern cam A for the production of interrupted stripes. A hand-lever D for manually throwing out the patterning attachment by moving the arm B has a stud K engageable by a catch E to hold it back against the action of a. spring- The catch E is adapted to be released by a lever F, the further end of which has a pawl or tumbler G lying in the path of a lever H on the shaft J which controls the change mechanism from continuous to reciprocating motion and vice versa. When the lever H is moved owing to the change from continuous to reciprocating movement it moves aside the pawl G and does not release the lever from the catch E, but on the return movement the lever D is released and the striping mechanism put into action. The shaft J when turned to effect reciprocating motion is held by a pawl L on the lever H which is disposed in the path of a cam M<1> on the main controlling shaft M so that the shaft J is released from detention to be turned by a spring connected to the lever H. To provide for the cutting out of the splicing thread a pair of scissors P is provided on a tension-carrying pillar Q at a point below the main thread (not shown), the splicing thread O being conducted so that it passes between the blade. The main thread tension pillar A encloses a vertical shaft S having an arm T which engages one of the scissor blades. An arm U on the lower end of the shaft S engages, as the thread carrier moves round, a stud V on the frame. This stud is moved to three different levels bv the main controlling drum in order to actuate the two thread tension tappets W in the usual way and to cut the thread. Specification 210,850 is referred to.
