Abstract

A game board comprises a main game board 7 and a separate board 1 which is attached to the board by hinges, pins or other joints 2. The moveable section may be positioned so that one side is exposed, or moved to expose the information printed on the reverse. The moveable part may be held in place by clips or magnets (8, 9, fig 4).

METHOD OF CHANGING THE PLAYING AREA OF A BOARD GAME
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a way of constructing the board of a board game so that areas of surface can move. By this means, the information visible on the board of the board game may change, adding variety to the game action.
The information displayed on the surface of a board game can be unchangeable, limiting the game action.
This invention enables the information visible on the board to be changed by means of moveable parts, removing the constraint that the information displayed on the surface of the game board cannot change.
One or more parts of the game board can be moveable. The moveable part or parts can be connected to the board by means of hinges or pins or other joints. By this means information can be revealed, and information on the board can be hidden The moveable part can be any thickness, varying from very thin, so that there is no perceptible difference in relief on the board, to very thick, so that there is clear relief on the board.
The moveable part can be rotated about an edge by means of a joint or hinge, through, for example, 180 degrees. However, other angles are also possible.
The moveable part can be rotated about a corner by means of a joint or hinge through, for example, 180 degrees. However, other angles are also possible.
The moveable part can be rotated by a combination of these joints or hinges through various angles.
The moveable part can be held in place by means of gravity, by clips, or by small magnets.
The moveable part can be made of paper, card, cardboard, wood, plastic, metal, glass, or some combination of these.
The joint(s) or hinge(s) of known design can be made of paper, card, cardboard, wood, plastic, metal, glass, or some combination of these.
Page 2 The board on which the game is played can be of any shape enclosed by straight or curved sides.
The board on which the game is played can be 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional.
The moveable part can be of any shape enclosed by straight or curved sides The moveable part can be 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional.
The moveable part can be of any size and can move beyond the normal board game area.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a view from above of the board, and indicates part 1 which can be rotated about a hinge of known design. Part 1 can be rotated about the hinge 2. Part 1 can be rotated to occupy either area 3 or area 4 By this means, different information can be visible in areas 3 and 4 before and after the rotation FIGURE 2 shows part 1 which can be rotated about hinge 2 in one of its positions.
In this configuration the information on the surfaces 4 and 5 is hidden, the information on surfaces 6 and 7 is visible FIGURE 3 shows part I which can be rotated about hinge 2 in another of its positions. In this configuration the information on the surfaces 6 and 7 is hidden; the information on surfaces 4 and 5 is visible.
FIGURE 4 shows the possibility of using one or more magnets to hold in position the part 1 which can be rotated. One or more magnets 8 can be incorporated into the part I to hold it in position One or more magnets 9 can be incorporated into the board 10 to enable the magnetic attraction between the part 1 and the board If the part 1 or the board 10 is made of magnetic material, the one or more magnets in either the part 1 or the board 10 may not be needed FIGURE 5 show a plan view from above the board, and indicates part 11 which can be rotated about a hinge of know design. Part 11 can be rotated about the hinge 12. In this figure hinge 12 is perpendicular to the page. Part 11 can be rotated about hinge 12 to occupy other areas, depending on the angle of rotation.
For example, by rotating through 90 degrees, part 11 can be rotated to move from occupying area 13 to occupy area 14. Typical new positions for part 11 could be rotations through multiples of 90 degrees. An infinite number of angles of rotation are possible so an infinite number of positions for part 11 are possible
