Abstract
A board comprises a two part, flexible deck 4. Each part flexes independently and the board is steered by the redistribution of weight on each part. The board is divided along its length, and the two parts are connected by flexible joints 3. The board may be used as a mountain board or with a kite.
Description
Kite mountain board Kite mountain boarding is the sport of being propelled
on what is essentially a large skate board by a kite. The rider controls the kite with his hands and the board with his feet.
Both are separate pieces of kit. This invention relates to the board. The current market has a wide variety of boards that a lot of people feel are too heavy. This is largely due to conventional steering systems that contain a lot of metal that adds weight.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a steering system that minimises material used. This hoard has a 2 part, flexible deck that is secured by a flexible joint on each axle. When the rider leans back or forward, one part of the deck bends and therefore the axles have to move to compensate for the shortened distance on one side. This makes the board turn.
An advantage is that the minimal use of material used will reduce the weight of the board.
Preferably the material used for the axles will be lightweight and strong whereas the material used for the deck will also be flexible.
Preferably the mechanisms will be minima! so as to reduce the chance of breaking when in use.
Preferably the joints that secure the parts of the deck to the axles will be flexible to let the board turn properly.
An example of the invention will now be described as referring to the accompanied drawings.
Figure 1 shows an isometric view of the design. It shows the wheels (1), the bindings (2), the flexible joints (3), the 2 parts of the deck (4) and the axles (5).
Figure 2 shows an aerial view of the direction the hoard is travelling in when the riders weight is evenly distributed on both parts of the deck (6) .
Figure 3 shows an aerial view that gives an exaggerated idea of how the board would turn when weight is put on one side of the deck (8). This pressure being applied unevenly on the 2 parts of the deck would bend one part more than the other and therefore twist the axles around the flexible joints and make the board turn.
Claims (12)
- Claims 1. A board that has 2 parts to the deck / standing platform.
- 2. in accordance with claim 1, a board that steers with the use of a flexible, 2 part deck that is attached with a set of flexible joints to 2 axles with a wheel attached at each end of each axle totalling 4 wheels.
- 3. In accordance with claims I and 2, a board that steers using a deck that has 2 parts that run in a fairly parallel manor to each other and are situated either side of the central plane that runs between the centre, or close, of both axles.
- 4. In accordance with any previous claims, when no pressure is applied to the decks or if weight is evenly distributed, the 2 parts of the deck are about 90 degrees to the axles so that the board can be ridden in a straight line
- 5. In accordance with any previous claims, an equidistant dimension between the connective points that join either part of the 2 part deck to the axles when the board is unloaded or during even weight distribution is temporarily altered when uneven weight distribution occurs, causing I or both axles to move from their 90 degree relationship with the deck and therefore cause the board to steer.
- 6. In accordance with any previous claims, a board that as the riders weight is unevenly distributed on the 2 part deck, the flex and hence horizontal dimension is reduced on the part of the deck that bares the most weight and so steering occurs as I or both the axles accommodate this.
- 7. In accordance with any previous claims, a board that is steered by using the flex of the parts of the deck as a way of moving I or both axles to the desired angle.
- 8. In accordance with any previous claim, the flex of the standing platform itself is the main cause of steering.
- 9. In accordance with any previous claims, a board that's responsiveness with regards to steering and hence turning circle can be altered by moving the connection points between the 2 parts of the deck and the axles closer and further from the central, horizontal plane that runs between the centre of the 2 axles either symmetrically or otherwise before or during use.
- 10. In accordance with claim 1, the decks are fixed together by the means of a flexible or fixed joint or an unbroken continuation of the material further from the rider than the decks connection to the axles
- 11. In accordance with any preceding claims, a board that has at least I division in the standing platform or deck running the entire, or most of the length of the board.
- 12. In accordance with any previous claims, the principle of how tile board works and the feature of having 2 decks is applied to other Sorts of boards such as long boards or skateboards as well as the all terrain downhill and kite use.
