Abstract

BlueSonic describes a high quality audio playback and recording technology that uses at least three electronic techniques to boost, encode and enhance the audio signal between the Headset/Microphone and a computer system. The audio signal is transmitted over a wireless communication link which could be Bluetooth or Wireless Lan. The signal can either by in the regulated or unregulated bandwidths described by IEEE Examples are 802.11b and 802.11g. The technology will apply to any further enhancements of the Bluetooth or Wireless Lan systems under review and due for later release. It applies to any "Hands Free" high quality audio headset/microphone product which uses wireless communication to transmit its signal. The BlueSonic Technology is particularly suited to High quality Voice Recognition systems and the CD quality Audio Playback required.

General Description.
BlueSonic is a technology based on wireless communication using a headset and microphone (Headset) capable of sending and receiving high quality audio signals. The Headset connects to a computer via an unregulated or regulated wireless communication pathway. This may include the bandwidth used by Bluetooth Technology (Version 1.1 or 1.2 and above) or the bandwidth used by Wireless Lan (from basic 802.llb, to 802.lla and 802.llg up to very high WiF1 bandwidths capable of transmitting data at 54MB or higher) The headset can be connected to any poitable computer including hand held devices (PDA) Tablet PC's and Laptops. It can also be integrated with Desktop PCs and Server Computers.
The principle of BlueSonic is the requirement for very high quality audio signal transmission. The application of this technology is focussed on Voice Recognition and CD quality audio playback.
The market for this product could be Medical Device Voice Recognition. In particular Pathology and Radiology departments would use this product.
The name BlueSonic will be trademarked in 5 classes according to UK Trademark law. The 5 classes are Classg, Class 38, Class 41, Class 42 and Class 44.
Other markets for this product could be Accident Investigation, Police & Emergency services, Local and Central Government departments,( Including Military, Home Office & NHS Industries).
Particular businesses who generate significant electronic documentation are Finance, Banking industry & Business Consulting. In fact any requirement for dictation transcription could use this technology.
From the consumer market, any private individual who wants to listen to an audio playback could use this technology.
The difference between this technology and others already on the market is the quality of the audio playback over a wireless medium.
Effectively the quality of the audio signal would match or come close to a CD quality recording or other similar digital audio signals.
The range of the headset would only be limited by the wireless transmission medium. For practical purposes Voice Recognition would normally happen within 30 feet of the computer. Audio playback could be anywhere in the Wireless Lan range. An example is a Voice Server in one hospital connected via the internet to a headset playback in any other hospital site.
In a true mobile audio playback scenario the audio signal would be transmitted via wireless Ian to another department computer within the same building.
Internet Music Download systems available now an in the future could use this device to track copywrite charges and provide CD quality audio reception for their consumers. Ultimately the device could be used to charge for audio signals received. The closest analogy is ring tones on mobile phones. * TI

Claims (6)

  1. The Claim BlueSonic uses a wireless communications medium the audio signal
    is both electronically enhanced and encoded to produce a near CD quality Audio transmission/Reception.
    Three technologies are used: Very High Definition- Dynamic Noise Cancelling (VHD-DNC) Audio Encryption Wrapping (AEW) Voice Integrated Computers And Displays (VICAD)
    VHD-DNC
    By sampling the background audio signal and using inversion techniques the background noise presented to the microphone is attenuated. The separate claim for this technology is focussed on the ability of the microphone to "Sample" the audio background noise dynamically.
    In particular when the speaker has stopped talking the headset technology tests the background noise at set intervals to dynamically modify itself to the background audio profile of the room.
    AEW
    Audio Encryption Wrapping uses a digital encoding technique to secure the audio signal from unauthorisecl monitoring. It also adds error correction to the transmitted signal to ensure a quality of service is maintained in non optimum environments. eg electrically noisy rooms
    VICAD
    Previously described by the author in a DII Innovation application (proposal 11118, April 2004) Voice activated Computers and Displays uses a human generated voice command to control electronic devices like headsets and computers. The "language" is based on a voice command set that is not confused with normal spoken language. The closest analogy is a command you would give a horse to canter. le chek-chek.
    VICAD wi!l allow the user of the headset to control when it is listening for their voice and when it is switched to standby. It will also control volume, pitch, bass, treble, playback speed, shuttle fast forward and rewind. In fact emulating the controls normally found on high quality audio playback systems like CD Players and Digital Audio Players.
    The three çechnologies can work on Bluetooth Version 1.2 Devices and above with limited functionality on Version 1.1 Devices. It will work on Mobile Voice over IP technology and over the unregulated (and regulated) Wireless Lan Bandwidths.
    Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. BlueSonic uses a wireless communications medium, the audio signal is both electronically enhanced and encoded to produce a near CD quality Audio transmission/Reception.
