Abstract

The invention relates to a plug B for use with a horseshoe A. When studs are removed from the shoe, threaded hole are left. The plug comprises a threaded cylinder having flat ends, which can be threaded into the holes to protect them. The plug has a slit at one end to allow it to be screwed in and removed using a screwdriver. Preferably, the plug is made of stainless steel and sits 1mm away from the surface of the hole to avoid wear.

Description

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
"STUD PLUG" WREN A FARRIER MAKES A HORSE SHOE, STUD HOLES ARE OFTEN PUT
INTO THE SHOE SO THAT A STUD CAN BE PUT IN FOR WHEN HORSES NEED
EXTRA GRIP (BIT LIKE A FOOTBALLER OR RUNNER). THE TYPE OF
HORSES THAT WOULD WEAR STUDS ARE HORSES IN COMPETITION FOR
EXAMPLE CROSS COUNTRY, SHOW JUMPING, RACING, POLO PONIES OR
IN GENERAL HORSES THAT LIVE IN SNOWY COUNTRIES OR THAT GET
RIDDEN IN SNOWY OR MUDDY CONDITIONS.
WHEN THE STUD IS NOT NEEDED FOR EXAMPLE WHEN THE HORSE IS AT
REST IN THE STABLE OR IN THE FIELD ETC) THE STUD IS SIMPLY UNSCREWED AND TAKEN OUT WITH A NORMAL SPANNER. ONCE THE
STUD IS OUT IT LEAVES A HOLE WHICH NEEDS TO BE FILLED TO STOP
DIRT AND STONES FROM GErlING INTO ThE HOLE AND MORE IMPORTANTLy THE THREAD AS THIS WOULD GET DAMAGED. SOME
PEOPLE STUFF THE HOLE WITH COTTON WOOL BUT THIS IS VERY
DIFFICULT TO REMOVE AS IT GETS TOO PACKED IN AND YOU THEN HAVE
TO DIG IT OUT WHICH IS VERY TIME CONSUMING ESPECIALLY IF THE
HORSE IS BEHAVING BADLY OR IS FIDGETY. THERE ARE OTHER PLUGS ON THE MARKET MADE FROM CORK, PLASTIC OR RUBBER, WHICH
AGAIN JUST GETS STUFFED INTO THE HOLE BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE
THESE EASILY FALL OUT.
MY DESIGN OF THE "STUD PLUG" IS A SCREW WHICH IS FLAT AT BOTH ENDS AND LOOKS SIMILAR TO THAT OF A GRUB SCREW. THIS WILL SIMPLY SCREW INTO ThE HOLE EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS THE STUD SCREWS IN. THE "STUD PLUG" WILL SIT 1mm BELOW THE HOLE SO THAT IT DOES NOT SIT QUITE FLUSH, THIS IS TO STOP THE LINE GROVE ON TOP OF THE "STUD PLUG" FROM WEARING SHOULD THE HORSE GET RIDDEN ON ROADS. THE OTHER END OF THE "STUD PLUG" DOES SIT FLUSH TO THE FOOT, THIS IS TO ENSURE IT DOES NOT HARM THE HORSES FOOT.
THE "STUD PLUG" IS EASILY SCREWED IN AND REMOVED WITH A
NORMAL SCREW DRIVER AND WILL RAVE A STANDARD ONE LINE GROVE
FOR THE SCREW DRIVER. THE ThREAD IS 3/8 WHICH IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS A STANDARD STUD. THEREFORE, MY "STUD PLUG" WILL KEEP
THE HOLE AND THE THREAD TOTALLY CLEAN MAKING IT EASIER TO
PUT IN AND REMOVE THE STUD WHEN IT IS NEEDED.
THE "STUD PLUG" WILL ALSO BE MADE OF STAINLESS STEAL TO MINIMIZE RUST.
FIGURE 1.
A) THIS IS A STANDARD HORSE SHOE.
B) STUD HOLES, MADE AS STANDARD BY ANY FARRIER, WITH STANDARD 3/8 THREAD. THE HOLE IS 7mm IN LENGTH.
FIGURE 2 A) SIDE VIEW OF STANDARD HORSE SHOE B) THIS SHOWS A SIDE VIEW OF A STUD WHICH HAS BEEN SCREWED INTO THE HOLE (AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1.
C) THE STUD THREAD LENGTH IS 7mm H' flGURE 3.
A) SIDE VIEW OF HORSE SHOE.
B) SIDE VIEW OF "STUD PLUG" ONCE SCREWED INTO THE HOLE SITTING 1mm UNDER THE TOP OF THE SHOE, MAKING THE "STUD PLUG" 6mm IN LENGTH.
FIGURE 4.
A) THIS IS A STANDARD HORSE SHOE.
B) AR1EL VIEW ONCE THE "STUD PLUG" HAS BEEN
SCREWED INTO THE HOLE WHICH REPLACES
THE STUD ITSELF. THIS KEEPS THE HOLE AND
THE THREAD IN PERFECT CONDITION FOR
WHEN THE STUD IS NEEDED.
