ADHESIVE TAPE CUTTING DEVICE
TECHNICAL FIELI) The invention relates to a cutting device for domestic transparent and opaque adhesive tape BhCK(;RQUNO There is a variety of transparent and opaque adhesive tape cutting devices on the market such as; desktop tape dispensers and petite plastic hand held dispensers etc.
PROBLEMS INVENTION SOLVES
Desktop tape dispensers, in their varied designs, don't accommodate mobile usage and can be quiet weighty and bulky. The cutting motion on theses devices are designed to keep the adhesive tape in a ready-to-use position by sticking to the cutting blade at the front, however at times the adhesive tape edge can fall back on itself forcing the next user to first find the edge of the tape and reinstate the proper use of the dispenser.
Hand held dispensers are user-fnendlier but are mostly sold with the adhesive tape and caters predominately for small diameter tapes The cutting device functions perfectly however as with the desktop dispenser, the tape edge can also fall back on itself and the edge can be hard to locate.
The most common problems with domestic transparent and opaque adhesive tapes are: A. Locating the edge point of the tape, which can be a major frustration for those with very short fingernails and the visually impaired.
B. Users whom are inclined to use their teeth for tearing the tape, which in most cases does not tear accurately and may have saliva found on the end. Domestic scissors are however the most appropriate option but may not always be readily to hand.
VYHAT INVENTION GOES
The objectives of this invention are to locate the edge of the transparent and opaque adhesive tape and to cut accurately with one localised device.
ESSENTIAL FEATURES
A revolving two-faced blade head consisting of two blades, with a grip pivoted on a retractable clasp to be attached to the domestic transparent and opaque adhesive tape to find the edge and accurately cut tape to a required length.
SOME IIPOP<TANT iNFGRlihATIC>N Preferably the cutting device will be made from solid metal but moulded plastic may be an option BEG'NNiNG C>F DETAlLE[) C)LSCRiPTIOI A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings In which.
FIGURE 1 shows the front view of the whole cutting device, FIGURE 2 shows a side view of the whole cutting device; FIGURE 3 shows the top view of the whole cutting device, FIGURE 4 shows the bottom view of the whole cutting device; FIGURE 5 shows the pivot and retractable clasp; FIGURE 6 is a section showing details of the rotational head and pivot; FIGURE 7 shows a top view of the device in relation to a domestic transparent adhesive tape; FIGURE 8 shows a bottom view of the device in relation to a domestic adhesive transparent tape; FIGURE 9 shows a wire frame of the whole cutting device, FIGURE 10 Is a perspective view of the whole cutting device; As shown in Figure 3, the cutting device comprises of a two-faced rotational head 1.
This is the main member of the device, which is made from solid metal. The two faces of the rotational head are made up of a finding face 3, which has a bevelled edge detail with the purpose to find and lift the adhesive tape edge. The cutting face 4, which has a gagged edge detail designed to cut the adhesive tape accurately.
As shown in Figure 6 & 7 shows the grip 2, which is a strip of rubber recessed into the rotational head 1 and glued Into position with the purpose to control the movement of the finding face 3 and the cutting face 4.
As shown in figures 1,2 & 8 the ear device 7, which is an integral part of the rotational head 1.
The ear device acts as a guide for the whole cutting device to maintain the correct orientation around the adhesive tape.
As shown in Figure 1 & 5 the retractable clasp 6 Is a pre-bent piece of shaped metal approximately 0.5 - 1 mm thick, which holds the rotational head to the adhesive tape. This clasp retracts as the thickness of the adhesive tape reduces whilst still maintaining a firm hold to the Inner side of the adhesive tape by virtue of its pre-bent composure and the ear device Figure 6 & 8 shows a section of the rotational head 1 which has a hole to accommodate the pivot 5 with a small section threaded at the end to both stay attached to the pivot and achieve rotational motion. The clasp 6 and pivot 5 Is not sectioned The pivot 5 is a cylindrical piece of metal that is slightly threaded at the end and is fixed to the clasp 6 by appropriate welding techniques.
The pivot enables the functions of the entire cutting device members once the rotational head has been screwed on The invention relates to a rotational two-faced blade head consisting of two blades with a grip pivoted on a retractable clasp to be attached to domestic transparent and opaque adhesive tape to find tape edge and accurately cut tape to a required length. Preferably the head performs a dual action controlled by a recessed rubber grip Preferably the blade head is held on the adhesive tape by a pivot, retractable clasp and ear device. Preferably the blade head moves around the adhesive tape as the tape edge is pulled up.
