Abstract

A hair styling device comprises two arms 1,2 pivoted at a hinge 5 and biased apart by a resilient support 6. Upper and lower hair contacting plates 3,4 are located at the distal ends of the arms with heating portions 8,9 adjacent the plates. The heat is provide by electrical power via a power cord 7 and is controlled by means of a switch 10 on one of the arms. Each of the plates have surface profiles 11,12 comprising projections and recessions that cooperate when the arms are brought together. Projections 11b on the upper plate engage with recessions 12a on the lower plate and similarly recessions 11a on the upper plate engage with projections 12b on the lower plate.

[00011 The present invention generally relates to an electric curling iron, and more particularly, to an electric curling iron for providing a user's hair with a certain shape by forming hemispherical pr:ectons and recessions in surfaces ol' heating plates thereof contacting with a user's hair, and for stretching out the hair or having the hair waved naturally and easily thereby.
BACK(,R()lJND ()F THE, INVF,NTI()N [0002] Generally, a curling iron has been used long time ago so as to adorn a user's hair. In former days, the curling iron have been used such that metal products were t'abricated with various shapes and heated by fire. f lowcvcr, in recent years, the electric curling iron to be heated usmg electricity has been remarkably popularized.
[0003J Korean utility model registration No. 348()14 discloses an example of an electric curling iron entitled "an electric curling iron used in a vehicle" which has been recently used.
[0004J 'I'he disclosed electric curling iron entitled "an electric curling iron used in a vehicle" has a heating plate for generating heat by a power supply from the outside, and the heating plate includes tan upper heating plate 60 and a lower heating plate 62. If a user's hair is positioned between the upper heating plate 60 and the lower heating plate 62 under the condition that they are in a set temperature, the heat generated from each of the upper heating plate 60 and the lower heating plate 62 will make the user's hair to get straightened or waved.
100051 IIowever, in such a case of the conventional electric curling iron having the above-mentiorled construction, because the surfaces to which a user's hair contacts, that is, the suri'aces oL'the upper heating plate and the lower heating plate are formed in a flat shape, the user can stretch the tser's own hair only when he should pull the hair strongly.
100061 ('onsequently, when a user applies excessive forces so as to straighten out the user's own hair, this may cause not only a disadvantage that the hair may be pulled out but also drawbacks that the hair may be damaged by the heat applied for several times due to a difficulty in straightening the hair, the user's wrist may be fatigued due to an operation for long time, and the fatigue may be accumulated

00071 Accordingly, the present invention is intended to solve the above disadvantages associated with the prior art. It is an object of the present invention to provide an electric curling Iron for providing a user's hair with a certain shape by forming hemispherical projections and recessions in surfaces of heating, plates thereof contacting with a user's hair, and for stretching t-)ul the hair or having the hair waved naturally and easily thereby.
00081 In order to accomplish the object of' the invention, an electric curling iron according to the present invention comprises upper and lower grips which are joined by a hinge at ends lhereol' to be contacted each other and which have heating portions heated by electricity, respectively, and upper and lower heating plates which are provided in contact surl:'aces ot' each of the grips and configured to be heated by the heating portions and discharge heat llere, hemispherical projections and recessions are spaced and arranged each other in the surl'aces of In the upper and lower heating plates.
The projections and recessions are arranged such that the projections are engaged with the recessions when the upper and lower heating plates are contacted each other.

10032] As mentioned above, while the electric curling iron according to the preferred embodiments of the present invention has been described with reference to the drawings attached hereto, it is to be understood that the present invention should not be limited to the embodiments and drawings herein and various modifications may be made without deviating from the scope of the concept of the present invention.

Claims (3)

1. An electric curling iron including upper and lower grips which are joined by a hinge at their ends so as to be contacted with each other and which have heating portions heated by electricity, and upper and lower heating plates which are provided in respective contact surl'aces of each of the grips and configured to be heated by the heating portions and discharge heat, wherein hemispllerical projections and recesses are provident in the contact surt'aces of the upper and lower heating plates, the projections and recesses being arranged sucl1 that the projections are engaged with the recesses when the upper and lower heating plates are contacted with each other, and wherein both ends ol' the upper and lower heating plates are l'inished in the form of a straight line.
