Abstract

Apparatus for use in the treatment of fluids, in particular hot gases comprises a filter element (9) and a displacement arrangement (16). The invention, the displacement arrangement (16) is spaced from the filter element (9) so as to allow a build up of particulate material on the surface of the filter element (9). The layer of particulate material serves to protect the filter element (9), and to help avoid fluctuations in the operating pressures of the system. This system also allows for a layer of activated or other treatment material to be present on the surface of the filter element (9).
