Abstract
A chair receptacle 10, adapted to receive a child car seat 1, comprises a tray 11 raised on at least one leg support 13B, 13C, 14B, 14C. The tray comprises a base 12 and four walls 13A, 14A, 15, 16, and may be provided with a strap 17 to secure the car seat. The base may include four apertures 18A-D to receive the legs (21A-D, Fig. 2) of a high chair seat (20, Fig. 2) adapted to be supported on the base.
Description
Title: Car Seat Chair The present invention relates to a chair for a car
seat.
Many small children such as babies are transported in car seats when they are unable to walk.
These seats usually have a handle to carry a child in the seat. The seat can be transferred to a car when travelling, and can then be transferred to a building without disturbing the child.
When in a building the seat containing the child is often put on the floor. If it is desired to feed or play with the child it is awkward to lean down towards the floor to do this. The child may be placed on a table or chair, but this can be dangerous. An alternative would be to transfer the child to a high chair, but a high chair may not be available especially when travelling away from home.
The invention seeks to provide a chair which can support a child in a car seat safely.
According to the present invention there is provided a chair for a car seat comprising a receptacle to receive a car seat, and at least one leg connected to the receptacle to space the receptacle above the ground.
Preferably the receptacle is in the form of a tray with a base, walls extending from the base and an open top face. Preferably the base is rectangular with four walls. Preferably at least one wall is angled outwards away from the base to accommodate a slanted face of a car seat.
Preferably a strap is provided to secure the car seat in the receptacle.
The invention may further provide an additional seat adapted to be supported in the chair receptacle. The seat may have legs and the receptacle base may have apertures to receive the seat legs. The seat may be in the form of a "high chair" seat.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure I shows an exploded perspective view of a chair and car seat, and Figure 2 shows an exploded perspective view of a chair and additional seat.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a car seat 1. Car seat 1 is generally of a bucket type construction with a rectangular base 2, side walls 3A,3B,3C,3D, and a handle 4. A seat harness 5 is also provided. Side wall 3C is slanted to allow a baby to lie back in the seat. Car seat 1 may be of a type well known in the art and does not form part of the present invention.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a chair 10 for car seat 1. Chair 10 includes a receptacle in the form of tray I I to receive car seat 1. Tray 11 has a base 12, a pair of opposing vertical side walls 1 3A, 1 4A formed by the upper section of side panels 13,14 respectively, and a pair of opposing walls 15,16 each with carrying handles 15A,16A respectively. Walls 15,16 are angled outwards to accommodate slanted faces 3B,3C of car seat 1.
The lower sections of panels 13,14 each create a pair of legs 13B,13C and 14B,14C connected to the tray 11 to space the tray l l above the ground.
In use car seat 1 can be placed in the tray 11 so that the chair supports the car seat above the ground preferably at a height to make the baby in the chair accessible to a person sitting down, e.g. so that a baby can be fed. The seat cannot normally fall out of the tray as it is restrained by the four walls, but a removable buckled strap 17 is provided to secure the car seat in the receptacle for added security.
Chair 10 may conveniently be formed from sheets of wood to create a product which can be stored in flat pack form.
Base 12 of tray 11 may include four apertures 18A,18B,18C,18D. As shown in Figure 2, the invention may further provide an additional seat 20 in the form of a "high chair" seat adapted to be supported in the chair receptacle. Seat 20 has four legs 21A,21 B,21C,21D which can be received by the four apertures 18A,18B,18C,18D. Chair to and additional seat 20 may together form a conventional "high chair". A consumer could purchase the chair l O to take a car seat and the additional seat 20 to have both the a car seat chair and a high chair.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the receptacle may be other than a tray. Walls 15,16 could be moveable, e.g. slideable, to accommodate different sizes of car seat. Also the chair could be foldable to make it compact for storage or transport.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
