Abstract

A bag which may be used to line the collecting box of a lawn mower for receipt of the grass cuttings. The open end of the bag may be fitted with a draw string which may be used to secure the bag to the edge of the box. When full the bag may be removed from the collecting box and the drawstring used to close the bag. The bag may need to be of a porous nature to allow it to be used in conjunction with some kinds of mowers, thus preventing a build up of back pressure in the cutting area. The bag may also be biodegradable to allow for the bag when full to be composted along with its contents.

Description

DESCRIPTION
I'he invention is based upon the concept of an easy, convenient and environmentally friendly system for disposing of Grass Cuttmgs and other degradable garden refuse that can be used with any apparatus havmg a collection box or bag.
The existing designs for grass collection apparatus and similar devices requires the physical removal of the contents from the collection box or bag to another receptacle or waste point, often requiring hand handling. Where grass is concerned, this can be difficult and often stains the skin and clothes as well as leaving residue on the ground unless great care is taken.
Previous inventions, based on grass collection/disposal have required a new collection container to be fitted to the grass cutting machine, together with modifications to the equipment. This invention utilises the manufacturer's original equipment, providing a very simple and cost effective method of waste management. The bags can be manufactured in a small selection of sizes and or shapes to fit most receivers. Alternatively, if individual manufacturers wish to incorporate this invention into their product range, bags could be custom made.
The collection container is manufactured from any Biodegradable material, which needs to be manufactured in such a way as to allow air to pass through it to avoid any build up of back pressure in the cutting area. This is done by forming perforations in the material during manufacture. To facilitate secure fitting to the manufacturer's container, the open end of the bag has a pocket formed around the circumference, through which a securing strap or cord or other device is fitted to hold the open end of the bag in position and to secure the contents in the bag on removal.
The bag Is simply fitted into the existing collector in the same way as a bin liner and is held in position around the opening to the container by a built-in pull cord or other device. When full, the cord or other device can be used to close the opening and provide a sealed disposal bag. Manufacturers may want to make a simple modification during manufacture to their containers to provide for an easy and secure fitting of the bag.
In normal circumstances the act of transfer from the collection box or bag to the final waste point will loosen the product very significantly and in the form of grass cuttings, double the volume of the original container contents. This invention will allow the compacted materials to remain thus within the bag and reduce the volume of waste for disposal.
Bemg Biodegradable, the bag can be placed into domestic recychng bins where provided by Local Authorities or larger centralised re-cyclmg bins at central collection points rather than having to place loose cuttings and other materials directly into the bins, causing smells and the added task of cleaning bins out. t
The invention will now be further described with the aid of the following diagrams, showing; Figure I Typical collector box Figure 2 Typical collection receptacle bag showing open end and pull cord Figure 3 Typical collection receptacle bag fitted into a typical collector box Figure 4 Typical collection receptacle bag removed from the collector box with the cord pulled tight to secure the contents ready for disposal

Claims (6)

1. A receptacle, formed in the shape of a bag with open end, ideally manufactured from a Biodegradable and air permeable material for the collection of compostable waste materials, which maybe used in conjunction with manufacturer's existing collector box or bag systems.
2. The receptacle as described above can be secured to the existing collector box by means or a pull cord or similar tightening or fixing device fitted to the circumference of the open end of the receptacle.
3. The receptacle as described above can have the contents secured by the tightening or fastening of the open end to allow easy and clean disposal of the bag and contents to a re-eyeling facility bin or area.
4. The receptacle can be manufactured in various sizes to suite most existing collector boxes or produced to fit a particular shape and size of collector box or bag.
5. The receptacle maybe manufactured without being of a Biodegradable material or having a fastening device at the open end.
6. The receptacle may be manufactured to include advertising or other printed matter upon it.+
