Abstract
A stop for preventing accidental collapse of a hydraulic, wheeled jack is a two part member with shaped ends to fit between the base and crutch of the jack. Height adjustment is carried out by inserting pins 1 in aligned apertures 3 and the stop is inserted by using a handle 4 placed in one or more holes.
Description
THE STRUT BRACE
THE INVENTION IS USED IN CONJUCTION WITH A HYDRAULIC FLUID OPERATED
WHEELED JACK
WHEN THE STRUT BRACE IS FITTED TO A HYDRAULIC FLUID OPERATED WHEELED
JACK (TROLLEY JACK), THE JACK GAINS AN EXTRA ABILITY, BY CONVERTING IT FROM A HYDRAULIC FLUID SUPPORTED, TO A MECHANICALLY SUPPORTED SAFE THE STRUT BRACE'S LENGTH IS ADJUSTABLE AND HYDRAULIC FLUID PRESSURE ON THE JACK IS RELEASED ONCE THE INVENTION IS FITTED.
WHEN HYDRAULIC FLUID OPERATED TROLLEY JACKS ARE USED TO LIFT A LOAD, FLUID PRESSURE FAILURE MAY CAUSE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. BY USING THE
STRUT BRACE THAT SAFETY ISSUE IS RESOLVED AS THE WORK LOAD IS
MECHANICALLY SUPPORTED BY THE STRUT BRACE.
THE WORKING LIFE OF THE JACK CAN BE EXTENDED BY USING THE INVENTION.
THE STRUT BRACE OVERCOMES THE ISSUE OF ONLY ONE AREA TO RAISE THE
LOAD AND REPLACE THE JACK WITH A SUITABLE SUPPORT, LIKE AN AXLE STAND.
THE STRUT BRACE ITSELF WILL BE MADE OF A BOX (OR ROUND) SECTION IN METAL OR ALLOY, WITH HANDLE/CHAIN AND PIN ATTACHED, AS REQUIRED.
FIG 5 SHOWS THE COMPLETE STRUT BRACE (AS A BOX SECTION) FITTED ONTO THE TWO "ROUND" AXLE MOUNTING POINTS "D" OF A JACK.
THE MOUNTING SLOTS SHAPE SIZE AT "A.B&C" ARE DEPENDANT ON THE AXLE'S "D"OF THE HYDRAULIC JACK.
FIG 1 SHOWS THE STRUT BRACE AS A ONE SECTION UNIT.
THE FITTING HANDLE "4" AND THE LOCKING PIN "1" SECURITY CHAIN "2" CAN BE RIGHT OR LEFT HANDED.
THE SIZE OF THE STRUT BRACE AND THE NUMBER OF SECTIONS USED WILL BE
DETERMINED BY THE SIZE OF THE TROLLEY JACK.
OPERATION
USING DRAWINGS FIG 1.2.4 & 5 THE LENGTH OF THE STRUT BRACE IS ADJUSTED, BY SLIDING TWO SECTIONS TOGETHER FIG "2" TOP SECTION, INSIDE THE LOWER SECTION FIG 1 UNTIL THE HOLES "3" OF THE TWO PARTS LINE UP,IN THE REQUIRED POSITION, THE LOCKING PIN "I" IS THEN FITTED THROUGH THE HOLES, SECURING THE TWO SECTIONS TOGETHER.
NOW USING THE HYDRAULIC JACK TO LIFT TIRE LOAD TO JUST ABOVE THE
REQUIRED HEIGHT, (TO ENABLE FITMENT OF THE STRUT BRACE) THE STRUT BRACE IS FITTED TO THE FRONT LOWER AXLE "D" OF THE TROLLEY JACK FIG "4" BY SLIDING THE LOWER SLOT "A" FIG 1 USING THE HANDLE "4" ONTO THE MIDDLE OF THE AXLE AT "D".AS FIG 4 & 5
THEN POSITION THE TOP OF THE STRUT BRACE UNDER THE MIDDLE OF THE
UPPER AXLE "D" AS FIG 4 (UNDER THE HEAD STOCK).
THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE OF THE TROLLEY JACK IS THEN CAREFULLY
RELEASED UNTIL THE UPPER AXLE "D" OF THE TROLLEY JACK IS FIRMLY RESTING AT THE BASE AT "C" AS PER FIG 5 OF THE STRUT BRACE.
THE LOWER PART OF THE STRUT BRACE FIG 1 CAN BE USED ON ITS OWN AS A FIXED LENGTH UNIT WHERE SLOT "B" BECOMES THE TOP MOUNTING SLOT FITTED UNDER THE UPPER AXLE AT "D".
THE REMOVAL OF THE STRUT BRACE IS THE REVERSAL OF THE FITTING
PROCEEDURE.

1/ A SAFETY STRUT BRACE FOR HYDRAULIC FLUID OPERATED WHEELED JACKS, CHANGING THE OPERATIONAL USE FROM A HYDAULIC FLUID
OPERATED DEVICE TO A MECHANICALLY BRACED SAFE LOAD BEARING
PLATFORM.
2/ A SAFETY STRUT BRACE AS CLAIM 1 FITTED USING A HANDLE UNDER THE RAISED LOAD BEARING (HEAD STOCK) AXLE OF A JACK AND ON THE LOWER FRONT AXLE.
THE SHAPE OF THE MOUNTING SLOTS WILL BE DEPENDANT ON THE
HYDRAULIC JACK
3/ A SAFETY STRUT BRACE AS CLAIM 1 & CLAIM 2 WHERE ITS FITTED
