Abstract
An inflatable single seat racing car cockpit for use with electronic driving games and simulations comprises a seat 1, an integral headrest 2, a mounting platform 3 for mounting gaming control devices, e.g. a joystick or steering wheel, cockpit sides, and a front nose section which houses a pedal mounting plate 4 for a pedal unit which may be accessed by a front panel 5. When not in use the inflatable cockpit can be deflated for storage. The inflatable cockpit may be provided with audio and tactile feedback, e.g. speakers and vibration causing units. The cockpit may be used with a monitor stand.
Description
INFLATABLE COCKPIT
This invention relates to a cockpit (which is similar in layout to a single seat racing car) for use with electronic games such as those used with "Gamecube"_, "XBox"_ and "PC" software programmer and simulations etc. The device includes a seat 1, with integral headrest 2, mounting platform 3 (for the support of a gaming device such as a steering wheel or joystick) cockpit sides, front nose section (for the users legs and feet) which houses an adjustable pedal mounting plate 4 (for fixing of game device pedal unit).
Such similar seating frames/devices for the mounting of game play peripherals are well known but are space consuming when stored/not in use and are also typically heavy in construction.
The purpose of this device is to provide a cockpit for use with computer game play or simulation software programmer. The device is inflatable and therefore able to be stored virtually flat when not in use.
For comfort, the inflatable device would be made from a "flocked", rubberised fabric or other suitable material which can be inflated and maintain form and remain stable during game play.
The game play peripherals (a steering wheel/joystick and pedal unit) are fitted to the mounting platform 3, and adjustable pedal mounting plate 4.
Access to the pedal mounting plate 4 (for fitting or adjusting the pedal unit) is gained via the removal of the front nose section panel 5. The nose section panel would be attached by means of press-studs, zip or hook and loop tape.
An optional fan unit could be fitted to the front nose panel 5. This would circulate air to or from the footwell area thus providing user comfort.
During use, an option of "rumble" vibrators could be fitted within each side of the seat 1, and speakers attached to the sides of the headrest 2. This would enhance experience during game play by giving tactile and audio feedback.
The inflatable device could be used with a TV/monitor placed in front of it at a suitable height or alternatively placed on the monitor stand shown in figures 4 & 5.
The monitor stand would consist of a plate 6, legs 7 and base 8. These items would be fabricated from lightweight materials such as aluminium tube/plate. The legs 7 would straddle the cockpit just in front of the steering wheel/joystick mounting plate. The plate 7, should be large enough to take either a CRT or TFT screen.
