Abstract

A motorcycle indicator warning device includes a vibrating unit 1 mounted within the handlebar grip 4 and made waterproof by a mechanical seal 7. The vibrating unit is controlled by a motorcycle indicator switch 2 and is connected by a cable 3 to the motorcycle battery via a fuse box.

Description

MOTORCYCLE INDICATOR WARNING DEVICE
This invention relates to a safety device that will provide warning to motorcyclists by way of physical sensation, that their indicators are in operation, therefore eliminating the need for motorcyclists to take their eyes from the road to view the instrument panel.
With no automatic cancelling mechanism available in respect to indicators on motorcycles, this Indicator Warning Device (Iwo) is designed to serve a warning against the potential danger to those riders who inadvertently forget to cancel the indicators following a signalled manoeuvre. Continuing to travel whilst still indicating may possibly give a false impression of intention to other road users.
The object of this invention is to provide adequate warning to motorcyclists via a vibrating unit within the grip of the motorcycle handlebar, that the indicators are in operation.
Accordingly, this invention comprises of a vibrating unit mounted within the motorcycle handlebar grip, working simultaneously with the indicators via the winker/indicator switch.
The Iwo is not independent and in order for it to operate, it must be wired into the motorcycle winker/indicator switch.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the motorcyclists' view from the riding position and indicates with a box, an undersized view of figure 2.
FIGURE 2 shows a close up of the Iwo, indicating its' position within the handlebar grip.
Figure outlines the instrument panel, the main controls to the motorcycle and the position of the Iwo in relation to these.
Figure 2 provides a close-up view of the Iwo i, which is positioned at the top of the handlebar grip 4, with a mechanical seal 7. The cable 3 providing the power supply from the battery for the unit, is controlled by the winker/indicator switch 2. Figure 2 also shows the motorcycle clutch control lever 6 and the handlebars.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS: 1. The Iwo, which is powered by the motorcycle battery is
permanent, is strategically positioned, is weatherproof and is wired into the motorcycle winker/indicator switch, in such a way that the same fuse protects both the Iwo and the indicators.
  2. 2. AS claimed in claim 1, the Iwo is a permanent fixture and therefore is an integral part of the machine.
  3. 3. As claimed in claim 1, the Iwo is powered from the motorcycle battery.
  4. 4. As claimed in claim 1, the Iwo is strategically positioned within the top-side of the grip, in order to maximise physical contact between the riders' hand and the device itself during operation.
  5. 5. As claimed in claim i, the Iwo is weatherproof by the provision of a mechanical seal, in order to prevent the ingress of any wetness.
  6. 6. As claimed in claim I, the Iwo is wired into the motorcycle winker/indicator switch in such a way that the winker/indicator switch operates and cancels simultaneously, both the Iwo and the indicators.
  7. 7. As claimed in claim i, from a safety aspect, so as one cannot operate separately from the other, the same fuse must protect both the Iwo and the actual indicators. )
