Abstract

A protective cylindrical outer casing (2) with collapsible ribs (1) along its length. The casing is formed in two halves which interlock together (3) allowing placement around the pipe (6) requiring protection from external forces.

Description

DESCRIPTION
Pine Protection Sleeve The pipe protection sleeve will provide protection to a range of pipes which may be liable to external forces compressing the pipe, causing either a fracture to the pipe or damage to joints.
A common problem encountered when building over or encasing rigid pipes is to provide protection against ground movement or settlement of a structure. Current solutions are: 1. Create a shattering system around the pipe 2. Provide a system of flexible joints Both existing solutions can require considerable resources and materials. The invention provides a quick and easy solution to this problem.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, this invention provides sheathing to pipe work that will compress or collapse, thus protecting the integrity of the pipe and its joints. This is achieved by the use of collapsible ribs (1), formed within a protective cylinder (2), which encases the pipe. The cylinder is formed in two halves with interlocking joints (3), with an inner diameter (4), to suit the external diameter of the pipe to be protected (6). The ribs are designed to deform under load to prevent damage to the pipe work and will be at a length (5), to suit the application requirements. The design makes installation simple, quick and suitable for either existing or new pipe installation.
Figure 1 Shows extended perspective of the pipe protection sleeve Figure 2 Shows section of the pipe protection sleeve By way of example, the invention can be used to protect a sub soil drainage pipe passing through the footing of a structure. After placement of the pipe protection sleeve around the drainage pipe, foundation concrete can be infilled, encasing the pipe and the pipe protection sleeve. Any subsequent movement in the ground or the structure will be absorbed in the deformation of the pipe protection sleeve and will not result in the pipe or its joints being damaged.
The sheathing is durable and capable of withstanding pressures exerted during construction. In addition, it is made of inexpensive material and is lightweight for easy handling and storage.
Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is understood that the present disclosure is made only by way of example and that numerous changes in the details of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention.

Claims (3)

1. An outer casing to protect pipe work from external pressures, for example, ground movement.
2. A casing, as in claim 1, that has collapsible, deformable ribs allowing the required protective clearance around the pipe.
3. A casing, as in claim 1 or 2, formed in two halves with interlocking joints for on site application around either existing or new pipe installations.
