Ball and like mills.-A rotary pulverizer or ball mill is provided with a lining of resilient material attached to the cylindrical or conical shell of the pulverizer by means embedded in the lining and not exposed to the contents of the mill. The lining is composed of sections 15, Fig. 2, positioned circumferentially in the shell 10, each section having a longitudinally-disposed flanged metal channel 17 moulded into its structure and adapted to be engaged by the heads 18 of bolts 16 which pass through the shell and are secured by nuts 22. A plate 19, perforated or not, may be riveted or welded to the innermost side of the channel 17 and extend beyond the sides thereof to form laterally-projecting wings 20, which serve to anchor the channel 17 in the rubber &c. slab 15. The sections 15 are thicker over the channels 17 so that the lining has a sinuous contour, and the surfaces that contact with the shell are made flat so that the portions on each side of the channels undergo a cylindrical deformation when secured in place. The sections may be formed of a facing portion 23, Fig. 3, of wear-resisting rubber stock and a backing portion 24 of semihard rubber stock of a considerable degree of stiffness but still somewhat elastic and compressible. The backing 24 preferably diminishes in thickness towards the lateral edges of the section, and each section 25 is formed with an undercut trailing edge 26 to overlie the leading edge 27 of the adjacent section, the channel 17 being preferably disposed nearer the trailing edge 26.
