Abstract
This Direct Reading Compass is so designed that it indicates immediately any direction taken, which is absolutely correct. A normal compass does not indicate any direction taken, apart from going North or South, so one must calculate the correct geographical direction taken. Therefore by using the Direct Reading Compass, it saves time and possible mistakes, compared to a normal compass. The compass face point direction markings East and West are shown as opposite to the normal conventional compass face point direction markings.
Description
Page i. Direct Reading Compa TL, Compass as shown in the Sketch actually
indicates the exact direction one is facing when stationary or travelling, for example: 1. When travelling East, compass indicates East 2. When travelling West, compass indicates West 3. When travelling North East, compass indicates North East 4. When travelling North West, compass indicates North West 5. When travelling South East, compass indicates South East 6. When travelling South West, compass indicates South West 7. When travelling North, compass indicates North 8. When travelling South, compass indicates South There are 360 Degrees Total 9. North to North East - 45 degrees 10. North East to East - 45 degrees 11. East to South East 45 degrees 12. South East to South - 45 degrees 13. South to South West 45 degrees 14. South West to West - 45 degrees 15. West to North West degrees 16. North West to North - 45 drgrees Such a compass indicates immediately any direction taken, saves time and possible mistakes compared to a normal compass.

e e e e e À e e e À e e e e e e e SKETCH 1. Standard Compass see ee. À e A no. al compass is marked in degrees, going clockwise in a full circle from O to 360 degrees. A normal compass is fixed in a ship with the North marking facing the centre of the bows. If fitted in a car the North marking is fitted exactly facing the middle of the front.
The compass being marked in degrees, starts from marking N (north), then going clockwise NE (north east), E (east), SE (south east), S (south), SW (south west), W (west), NW (north west), and finally returning to N (north). There are 45 degrees between each of the above markings, see page 1 of Direct Reading Compass, Items number 9 to 16.
SKETCH 2. Standard Compass This is sketch 1. but now has a pointer which is a magnet and usually marked and pointed as an arrow at one end. This pointed end always points to the North Pole. Now assuming this standard compass is fitted in a car and the car is positioned geographically as follows, the compass will indicate as shown: Car position facing geographically N., compass indicates N. Car position facing geographically NE., compass indicates NW.
Car position facing geographically E., compass indicates W. Car position facing geographically SE., compass indicates SW.
Car position facing geographically S., compass indicates S. Car position facing geographically SW., compass indicates SE.
Car position facing geographically W.. compass indicates E. Car position facing geographically NW. compass indicates NE.
SKETCH 3. DIRECT READING COMPASS Now this compass has also O to 360 degree, going clockwise in a circular direction. The markings are different as follows.
Starting at N and going clockwise we have, N(north), NW(north west), W(west), SW(south west), S(south), SE(south east), E(east), NE(north east) , N(north).
With the compass having the new markings we have the following situation, see page 1, items 1 to 8. We now have a compass that whatever geographical direction our car is facing, the compass confirms that direction. and is correct.
Such a compass indicates immediately any direction taken, is absolutely correct, saves time and possible correction mistakes compared to a normal compass. À . .
