Abstract
239,849. Naugatuck Chemical Co., (Assignees of Smith, O. H.). Sept. 15, 1924, [Convention date]. Latex, treating; vulcanizing-compositions. - Alkaline-base phosphates, preferably normal salts, or secondary sodium phosphite are added to latex to act as a preservative, and subsequently as an accelerator of vulcanization of the rubber, or they may be added to plastic rubber as an accelerator. Suitable salts specified are tripotassium phosphate, trisodium phosphate, potassium and sodium pyrophosphates, secondary sodium phosphite, sodium ammonium hydrogen phosphate, secondary ammonium and sodium phosphates. In general, a phosphate having a hydrogen ion concentration in 2 per cent aqueous solution of less than 10-<6> will accelerate vulcanization, but to preserve latex, the concentration must be less than 10<-8>. The proportion of salt added is about 3 per cent or less.
