Abstract

The charities donations service is a system for enabling donators to give money to one or more charities via a single telephone call or SMS text message. A donation is made as soon as the call is connected or the SMS message is sent. No other information is required for the donation/transaction to be completed and the service is available to all donators without registration.

method of operation for allowing charities to receive donations through a single premium rate telephone number but essentially, it is a system that allows people to make a donation without any registration or preregistration of details, in order for the system to work.

Funding for charities may present themselves through government funding, corporate sponsorships, private donations, gifts, and legacies or as a result of fundraising initiatives.

Within the public, there are those who donate regularly to charities for whatever their reasons and those that would never consider donating. There are also many well intentioned members of the public who are happy to pop a pound into the collection box when chance presents itself, but would not consider signing up to a single cause or to subscribing for membership to a charitable organization. In summary, there is a section of the public who: want to show support for the many charities but cannot afford to give to too many; À want to donate from occasionally but only when they can afford to; do not want to commit to regular donations; want to stay anonymous; want to make one off, no ties, donations; do not want to be further contacted by the Charity to whom they have donated to; À do not want or are wary of giving out personal details such as name, address, credit card details etc in order to make a donation; do not have the time or perhaps inclination to fill out forms, read literature or otherwise break away from their day to day routines; want to be able to support their cnosen charity as, when and how they want.

The solution is a premium rate service designed to allow people to make a donation to a charity of their choice by telephoning or sending an SMS text message to a premium rate telephone number. The donation is completed as soon as the call is connected or the SMS message has been sent. No additional information is required and the donation is derived from a share of the revenue raised through the cost of the call that has been placed. The caller/benefactor will see their donation appear as a call charge appearing on his or her normal telephone bill.

This method of donating to a single or multiple charities helps to resolve the uncertainty that many prospective and potential benefactors face. It is a method and system that allows a donation to be made to one or multiple charitable organizations: - Through a single call.
