Abstract

A backpack (1), with an in-built stun gun device (2). Activated once a set distance from the owner the stun gun discharges though the outer layer of the backpack (3) to incapacitate the person attempting to steal it.

Description

1 239762 1 Anti-theft Backpack This invention relates to a backpack with a
built in stun gun device that is used to stun a potential thief should he or she attempt to steal the backpack in question. Thus the security of the backpack is assured owing to its inbuilt anti-theft system.
Backpacks and indeed handbags, briefcases and other such carrying equipment is prone to being stolen from the unwary owner. Once a bag is stolen there is little chance of getting it back, especially in the condition at which it was stolen because items such as wallets and mobile phones are likely to have been looted before the bag is discarded.
An object of this invention is to provide a backpack with a built-in security feature so that if it is stolen it can immediately be returned to the rightful owner.
Accordingly, this invention provides a backpack with a built in stun gun unit. The stun gun is operated when the bag senses that it is a set distance away from its owner.
The electrical discharge occurs through the outer material layer of the bag, stunning the person who is taking it away from its rightful owner.
In order to gauge the distance from the bag to the owner, the owner wears a transponder or other device on his or her person possibly in the form of a wristband or necklace. The owner is therefore not at risk of being stunned accidentally since the wristband will be in close proximity to, and sensed by, the bag. As someone tries to steal the bag, moving it away from the owner, the bag senses the distance from itself and its owners wristband. At a set distance i.e. 20 meters it arms the stun gun and on firing, incapacitates the thief. At the same time an alarm may sound on the wristband alerting the rightful owner to the incident, who can now safely move towards the incapacitated thief and retrieve his or her bag.
Stun guns are able to incapacitate people because the electrical pulse patterns they produce causes the muscles in the stun recipient to work very rapidly. This depletes the store of blood sugar, converting it into lactic acid. The resulting energy loss makes it difficult for the victim to move and function.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: À Figure 1 Depicts a backpack containing a stun gun unit and areas of the outer layer of the backpack constructed of electrically conductive material.
Figure 1 shows the key features of this invention which are the backpack ( I), the stun gun unit (2) and the outer electrically conductive material layer of the bag (3).

Claims (2)

1. A backpack fitted with a stun gun unit that emits its charge through the outer material layer of the backpack to incapacitate a thief attempting to steal it.
2. An anti-theft backpack substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
