Abstract

239,652. Fisher, B. R., Penhale, R. H., and Jacobs, H. July 15, 1924. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid. Cutting slices in succession.-In a slicing-machine employing a rotary and reciprocating disc knife, the carriage C, which carries the knife shaft, is reciprocated along guides D by a lazytong arrangement which connects a crank disc H to the knife carriage C. The disc H is rotated by a hand-wheel X through reduction gearing Y, Y' and the crank pin H' operates a connecting-rod 0 which is secured to a joint N of the lazy-tongs M, one end of which is anchored at M<1>. The lazy-tong connection produces a long reciprocation of the carriage C from the relatively short throw of the crank H'. The knife A is revolved by the engagement of a pinion G, which may drive the knife shaft through a one-way clutch, with a stationary rack F. The meat table P may have a flat or concave upper surface and may be stationary or movable on slides. As shown in Fig. 4, the table P is stationary and the bacon is clamped thereto and moved thereover by the clamping arms T, which are mounted on posts S carried on a saddle Q which is slidable along the table P by the slice-feed mechanism. The feed is effected by a lever W, Fig. 3, which is tripped by the crank pin H<1> and is connected to the feed screw by a rod V<1> and an arm V containing a frictional one-way clutch or ratchet mechanism. According to the Provisional Specification, an ordinary connecting-rod may reciprocate the carriage C and the feed is effected by pawl mechanism, the pawl lever being connected to an eccentric on the main driving-shaft.
