Abstract

A grass/weed suppressor consisting of a tough durable plate 3 with a central aperture to fit around the base of a piece of garden furniture or a piece of static play equipment, for example, on a lawn. The device is fitted with spikes 1 on its lower surface to allow for the device to be fixed into place on the ground to prevent its own movement. In use the leg of the garden furniture or play equipment will pass through the central hole which has an air-tight flexible sleeve 2 attached to it. The device suppresses the growth of grass/weeds around the legs or uprights thus allowing for easy mowing. The device may be of any shape or colour, and made of plastic or metal.

Description

Grass/weed Suppressor The invention relates to a suppressor, positioned at

ground level, to suppress grass/weeds which may be growing around the leg base of a piece of garden furniture or a piece of child's static play equipment.

When mowing our lawns we find that we can't mow flush around static garden furniture or child swings/slides and climbing frames, due to the current designs of mowers.

We are left with messy tufts of grass or weeds at the base of these items, which require a different tool to remove, requiring more time and energy on our part.

An object of this invention is to provide an aid for low-maintenance gardening, which will take away the need for extra gardening tools and also create a visually tidier garden area. Accordingly, this invention will have a flat surface and on its base will have protruding steadies which will allow the suppressor to be fixed into place into the soil to prevent its own movement, and will have a central air-tight hole through which the leg of the garden item will pass.

Preferably this suppressor will be made of a tough durable plastic or metal, or a combination of both.

The preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a side view of the grass/weed suppressor.

As in Figure 1 the suppressor has a flat upper surface with protruding steadies or spikes below. The drawing in Figure 1 shows the suppressor in a disc shaped form, but other shapes are possible. e.g. square or oval.

The steadies/spikes 1 will ensure lack of movement of itself while in the soil.

These steadies/spikes 1 can be of any number depending on its overall size.

The suppressor in Figure 1 can be made of either a tough durable plastic or metal or both combined. Different colours of this plastic would be desirable.

The air-tight flexible sleeve 2 in Figure 1 will be attached to the central hole, and will act to ensure that no grass or weeds can filter through.

The sleeve 2 is flexible to allow for the angle at which the garden item's leg e.g. a swing or a climbing frame, will pass through.

This is not normally at 90 degrees.

The invention's flat top surface 3 will allow a mower to glide over it effortlessly.

Claims

1. A grass/weed suppressor to be positioned at ground level with a flat surface and with protruding steadies on its base to allow the suppressor to be fixed into the soil to prevent its own movement, and will have an air- tight central hole through which the leg of a garden item will pass.

2. A suppressor as claimed in Claim 1 where the shape of this item could be disc-like

3. A suppressor as claimed in Claims 1 and 2 where the suppressor will include an air-tight, flexible sleeve at the centre which will deter growth of grass/weeds and ease the fitting to garden items.
