Abstract

This invention provides for a metal wire or similar malleable material to be incorporated into and across the seam of a bag. The wire is encased near the outer edge of the seam and can be detached from the remaining seam by a series of perforations made across the seam above the tie. This allows the remaining part of the seam to continue to seal the contents of the bag, while the now detached bag tie is used to seal the opening that has been made in the bag to partially empty its contents. Tying off the opening in the bag using the detachable bag tie prevents the remaining contents from being accidentally spilled.

DESCRIPTION
Integrated - detachable bag tie The invention relates to a bag tie that is integrated into the seam of a plastic bag during manufacture and can be detached from the seam of the plastic bag by way of a series of perforations and used to re-seal the bag and its contents.
Many plastic bags are difficult to re-seal if only some of the contents are used. This can often lead to the remaining contents of the bag being spilled.
The object of this invention it to make it easy to re-seal plastic bags when only some of the contents have been used. Although its primary use would be on plastic bags, the principle could be applied to bags made of other materials as well.
This invention provides for a metal wire or similar malleable material to be incorporated into and across the top or bottom seam of a plastic bag. The wire is encased near the outer edge of the seam and can be detached from the remaining seam by a series of perforations made across the seam above the tie. This allows the remaining part of the seam to continue to seal the contents of the bag, while the now detached bag tie is used to seal the opening that has been made in the bag.
If the bag tie were sitec. at the bottom seam of the bag, the consumer would have the choice of whether to detach and use the bag tie, or not.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig. 1: Shows one sealed seam of the bag Fig 2: Shows the perforations made across the seam to allow the tie to be detached. Fig 3: Shows the wire incorporated within the seam Fig 4: Shows the cut edge of the seam separating it from the next bag in the production line Fig 5: Shows the now detached tie wrapped around and securing the neck of the opened bag
As shown in accompanying drawing, the seam of the bag (Fig. 1) has a series of perforations across its entire width (Fig. 2), allowing the bottom part of the seam which contains the malleable wire tie (fig. 3) to be detached.
The now detached tie can then be used to seal the opening in the bag by twisting it around the neck of the opening as shown in (fig 5).

Claims (4)

1. A malleable bag tie that is incorporated into the seam of a bag which is detachable from the bag and is used to tie around the opening in the bag to re-seal its contents.
2. A bag tie as claimed in claim 1 that is incorporated into one seam of the bag at time of manufacture.
3. A bag tie as claimed in claim 1 that is detachable from the seam by way of a series of perforations made across the width of the seam.
4. A wire as stated in claim 1 made of metal or similar malleable material that will maintain its shape once twisted around the neck of the bag opening.
