Abstract
A door lock keep receives a bolt member and to prevent damage to the lock can yield to allow the bolt to be released when a force acting to open the door exceeds a certain level. A replaceable breakable plate can be used to restrain the bolt or a portion of the keep engaged by the bolt can be secured to a mounting portion by a snap-fastening which separates under force.
Description
( BREAK LOCK
My idea for break lock is a breakable catch plate, to save damage to the lock and door style i.e. X on the catch plate breaks or just flips out under pressure and is simply replaced by in seconds by its owner or their stats. Saving expensive call out charges. Replacement plates would be supplied with my lock.
USES= All public toilet conveniences which get abused i.e. pubs, clubs, hotels. Also domestic toilets, bathrooms where children lock themselves in. Catch plate locks could be in all colours all materials. Only thickness and flexibility would depend on their breaking or popping out.
Inside toilet cubicle, it a standard push bolt ol any material or design was fitted and was abused by a person net kicked. This would result in a broken lock plus door jam, resulting In expensive repair work. W'th my lock it would mean simply replacing the plate with a spare, which could be done by anyone.
Breakable plate or tlexble only gives way under a pressure that is just less than that ot the screws which hold the bolt catch plate in place to the door frame. When this happens simply slide another one in! NOTE There are many ways to design a lock that breaks under pressure. But in the main they all use the same principle as the break lock. One alternative is as described below.
A plastic locking screw head, with a snap in action shank as you may get in cars holding door trims etc This gives the impression that the plate is screw fixed, but the snap action shank gives the plate enough strength to take the weight of someone trying the door but not enough strength to hold under a kick or unreasonable force. The all you do is undo the main securing screw, ennpty out broken shanks and replace with new at a minute percentage of what a new lock would cost.
Claims (1)
- Claim I A catch plate for the leisure industry lo pub and clubs, for toilet doors etc whichcan be broke by any means of force but does not damage the door or frame due to the catch plate either snapping out or breaking but easily replaced.Claim 2 A slot in plastic plate which goes in to the catch plate and gives way under pressure from the bolt when to much pressure is applied to the back of the door.Claim 3 Push button fixing's used to hold catch plate to base catch plate, which snap out so plate is easily fixed.Claim 4 Plastic bolt which snaps and it easily replaced.Claim 5 Any type of lock which break's under pressure and is easily repaired by a novice for the minimum amount of money without call-outs for expensive builders etc. Claim 6 Not only a bolt but any type of latch system using the same theory of breaking the catch plate.Claim 7 The catch plate can have a variety ol fixings including snap on, secured by screw's of plastic turn system, the main body ofthe catch plate is secured firmly to the frame but the plate that catch's the bolt or latch is either broke under pressure or gives way to a spring loaded system or elastic system.Claim 8 The catch plate or what ever part of the lock which gives way, can be made from a whole range of property's ie plastics, metals, alloys, laminates, elastics etc. Claim 9 The latch or catch plate is set at such an angle or distance that instead of breaking will bend or snap out under pressure (not breaking) butstill covered by this break lock solution.
