Abstract

Apparatus for treating naturally occurring polymers, such as gums or resins from plants or trees, the apparatus comprising a heated reservoir 1 to contain a quantity of polymer, one or more inlets 15 for the introduction of additives/reactants, mixing means 4, 17, 18, and a pump 12 for transferring polymer from the reservoir 1 to the mixing means 4, 17, 18. The polymers may be converted to a plastics material or used in adhesives, fillers or paints.

Claims (7)

Claims
1. Apparatus for converting naturally occurring polymers into other forms of polymers, comprising, a reservoir having an integral heating means for heating a quantity of naturally occurring polymer contained in the reservoir, a mixing means having inlets to allow the introduction of
other constituents for mixing with the naturally occurring polymer and a pump having fluid connections to allow the naturally occurring polymer to be drawn from the reservoir and delivered to the mixing means.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, where the naturally occurring polymer is a resin obtained from living trees.
3. Apparatus as claimed in the preceding claims, where the naturally occurring polymer is converted into a plastics material.
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, where the naturally occurring polymer is converted into an adhesive.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, where the naturally occurring polymer is converted into feedstock for fillers.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, where the naturally occurring polymer is converted into feedstock for paints.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, where the naturally occurring polymer is converted into a hybrid polymer of any or all of those claimed in claim 3 to claim 5.
