Abstract

The Audio Device with Portable Memory Media Compatibility allows media files, which have been uploaded directly from a computer onto multipurpose portable memory media, to be played. By inserting multipurpose portable memory media into a compatible device, these files can then immediately be played directly from the media without further editing or re-recording. The invention may take several different forms. Audio devices compatible to portable memory media include home hi-fis, car stereos and televisions. These different forms each contain at least one port into which a multipurpose portable memory device can be inserted. Function buttons can be used to navigate through and between the different media files to play the one that is desired. The system has the necessary software to recognise all media file types and has an extension cable for the portable memory media.

Description

* AUDIO DEVICE WITH PORTABLE MEMORY MEDLt COMPATIBILITY This invention
relates to audio devices compatible with portable memory media.
With the proliferation of micro-purchasing, downloadable music and other media files, such as audio and video files; many media files are held on personal computers.
Portable memory devices, such as portable USB drives, are also becoming more widespread allowing data to be transferred from computer to computer. There are currently no audio devices such as hi-fis, car stereos or televisions that can interface directly with multipurpose portable memory devices - data has to be recorded onto media such as CDs before it can be played. This is time consuming and wasteful and compared to the direct efficiency and re-usability of portable memory devices.
Comparatively, CDs and tapes are bulky and inconvenient to carry and often have smaller capacities. Files on portable media such as portable USB drives can be added, deleted and renamed very easily and any type of media file can be stored.
The Audio Device with Portable Memory Media Compatibility allows any type of media file to be played directly from a multipurpose portable memory device Media files can be uploaded onto a portable memory device from a computer. These files can immediately be played from this medium without further editing or re-recording. As the memory devices are very small and portable the owner can very easily play media files on compatible devices such as computers, home hi-fis, car stereos or televisions.
The invention may take several different forms. It may be part of several audio devices such as home hi-fis, car stereos or televisions. It contains at least one port into which a portable memory device can be inserted. Function buttons can be used to navigate through and between the different media files to play the one that is desired.
It should be 'plug 'n' play' i.e. no additional software is needed and the portable memory media will be accessible as soon as it is plugged into the compatible audio device Important but non-essential features are that once a portable memory device is inserted into the audio device, provided there is a source of power, the device is activated and the first media file is played. The system has the necessary software to recognise all media file types It should be possible for media files, such as videos, that have a visual element, to be played directly from televisions and other audio-
visual devices without re-recording. The audio device has a graphical display that allows the user to view the media file details.
The audio devices should be supplied with portable memory media and also an extension cable. This allows the memory media to interface with the audio device but from a more convenient position or location.
Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figurel shows the front view, Figure 2 shows the top view, Figure 3 shows the portable memory media and extension cable.
part 1
( The Audio Device with Portable Memory Media Compatibility has at least one pOlt 1 (Fig 1 and 2) for interfacing with portable memory media It has function buttons 2 that can be used to manipulate media files. (Fig I and 2). It encompasses the standard features 3 (Fig 1) that are appropriate to the audio device such as radio, CD player, tape player, miniisks and volume control as appropriate.
Portable memory media, such as USB memory sticks 4 (Fig 2), can easily and conveniently be pushed into the ports and quickly removed. No external power source is required as portable memory media, such as portable USB drives; receive power from the audio device.
An extension cable 5 (Fig 3) can be used to link the portable memory media to the compatible audio devices from a convenient position or location.
Pare.
