Abstract

A mobile phone travel charger comprises a torch with a low voltage adapter plug 2 to connect to the mobile phone. The adapter is connected in series with the torch bulb 3 to limit the current to the phone. This also limits the current in case of short-circuiting of the adapter.

Description

DESCRIPTION
MOBILE PHONE TRAVEL CHARGER
The invention relates to a mobile telephone handset charging device which also functions as a torch.
It is a common problem that mobile phones internal batteries run flat when you are away from home, especially when camping or on holiday. This could be very serious as many lives are saved by stranded travellers phoning for help. A flat battery in these circumstances could be fatal.
An object of this invention is to provide a charger that functions away from the home but doesn't require extra equipment for the traveller to carry.
Accordingly a torch is designed with additional circuitry and a connector to allow charging of the phone battery by the torch batteries.
Preferably the torch is made of metal or plastic material A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE I Shows the torch powered phone charger FIGURE 2 Shows the torch circuitry Figure I shows the torch which comprises a low voltage plug adapter for connecting He torch electrical supply to the mobile phone's charger socket.
Figure 2 shows the torch circuit, which connects the low voltage plug in parallel with the torch on/off switch and in series with the torch bulb.
When the torch adapter plug 2 is inserted into the mobile phone handset charger socket a current begins to flow through the phone 6 and the torch bulb 3 in series. The current is regulated by the natural current limiting proper of incandescent filament bulbs to a maximum amperage determined by the torch bulb 3 current rating.
If the adapter 2 is inadvertently short-circuited by a conductor connecting the two terminals the current output is restricted by the torch bulb 3 preventing a dangerous current discharge.

Claims (4)

1. A torch including an adapter to charge a mobile phone handset
2. A torch as claimed in claim 1 where the adapter is in series electrical connection with the torch bulb, thereby limiting the current output of the device.
3. A torch as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metal or plastic or from a combination of these materials
4. A torch substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings
