Abstract

A watertight car cover that protects the vehicle from ground level upwards in cases of rising water e.g. flooding. The cover is sealed by means of waterproof zips 2 that open to allow the vehicle to be driven or pushed in and out of the cover. The cover 1 is made from uniform gauge reinforced PVC, the base 5 of the cover is made from heavier gauge reinforced PVC. Where the zips converge at a point on the roof they are protected from rain ingress by a PVC flap 3. There is a non-return valve 4 at the peak of the cover to allow trapped air to escape. The zips 2 have leads 6 attached to facilitate ease of use. The cover can be supplied in a range of colours.

Description

l WATERTIGHT CAR/VEHICLE COVER

This invention refers to a watertight, sealed car cover.

Car covers have been used to provide dust and rain protection for vehicles when not in use. These types of covers are not watertight and usually attach by hooks to the upper edges of the wheel arches of the vehicle. or else by means of an elasticated hem. These covers offer some protection from water and dust from above but because of the absence of any protection from ground level they offer no protection from rising water levels, such as in cases of flooding.

According to the present invention there is provided a fully watertight envelope in the form of a pouch that is opened and sealed by means of waterproof zips. This means therefore that the enclosed vehicle is Filly protected from ground level upwards from rising water in case of flooding.

The watertight cover would be made from a rip-proof PVC type material and this would also allow colour preference to be incorporated into the finished product.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figures l, 2 and 3 on sheet 1/3 show the side elevation (Figl), end elevation (Fig2) and plan (Fig3) of the vehicle cover in sealed position with outline of vehicle enclosed (Figl). Figure 1, sheet 2/3 shows the cover in perspective in the open position; Figure I, sheet 3/3 shows the cover in a similar perspective in the sealed position.

Referring to the drawings the cover comprises a solvent/heat-welded reinforced PVC cover I with waterproof zips 2 that open to allow driven or pushed entry and exit to the sealed cover 1. Zips 2 have extended leads 6 that facilitate easier usage.

In the sealed position, Figl, 3/3, the zips converge at a central point at the top of the cover where they are covered by a flap 3 to prevent rain ingress.

At the highest position is a non-return valve 4. 3/3 that allows air to escape from the cover. At ground level where there is contact with tyres and ground, heavier gauge reinforced PVC, 5, is used.

Claims (7)

1 A sealed, watertight vehicle cover that protects the vehicle from rising water in cases of flooding.

2 A cover as claimed in Claim I where waterproof zips allow a watertight seal.

3 A cover as claimed in Claims 1 and Claim 2 where waterproof zips allow entry and exit to the sealed cover.

4 A cover as claimed in Claim 1 where any compressed air can escape by means of a non-return valve at the highest point of the cover.

5 A cover as claimed in Claim I the convergence point of the waterproof zips is covered by a flap that prevents rain ingress.

6 A cover as claimed in Claim I whose zips have extended tags attached where necessary depending on size of vehicle to facilitate easier usage of zips.

7 A cover as claimed in Claim I whose materials allow for colour preference to be incorporated into the finished product.
