Abstract

A rope tensioner comprises a metal rod or tube having a shaped hook at one end around which the rope is passed and a spiral portion at the other end for holding the rope. The spiral allows ropes of different sizes to be used with the same tensioner.

Description

Rope Tensioner Theinvcntion relates to a ropetensioner. The present
invention is atensionerofone piece single bar construction and incorporates a specially angled hook at one end and a specially spiralled loop at the other end.
The angle ol the hook facilitates simple rope engagement, and rope retention during the initial tournlqUct t\\ Istlng operation.
The spirallcd loop tachtates simple anchoring of the tensioner on comletion of the final tensioning turn.
An outline drawing of the invention,- a rope tensioner, is described on the attached drawing which shows, In full size, a front and side elevation, with a tensioned rope strewn in chain-dotted lines. The angle ol the hook is indicated "A" on the drawing.
The pitch of the loop spiral is indicated "P" on the drawing.
The method ol use is as tollows: (1) Hook the tensioner onto the selected rope span.
(2) Twist the hook to engage the rope.
(3) Swing-turn the tensioner until suitable rope tension is achieved.
(4) Align the tensioner in line with the rope.
(5) Anchor the tensioner by engaging the spiralled loop with the rope.
(6) To clsengagc the tensioner carry out operations ( I) to (5) in reverse order

Claims
1 A rope tensioner which comprises a single metal bar or tube.
2 A r ope tensioner as claimed in claim 1. Which incorporates a hook of special shape with an angled engagement feature.
3 A rope tensioner as claimed in claim 1. Or in claim 2. Which incorporates an htcbral anchoring loop of varying spiral formation.
