Abstract

A wheel bearing assembly with a rotary speed or position sensing element has a stationary inner bearing ring (11) and a relatively rotatable outer bearing ring (4). Balls (2) provide rolling elements to rotate between the inner and outer rings. An annular ring (21) is carried by the inner ring (11) and has an inclined portion (23) which forms an encoder (24) with alternate north and south poles. A sensor (6) is oriented to present an end face (36) to the encoder (24).
